**September & October Community Meal Distribution**

For this meal distribution, we will be providing **two meals at one pickup** to cover both September and October. Because our September pickup falls so close to October, and October is a particularly busy month for community outreach events, this will allow us to better serve our community while working within our volunteer and time constraints.

🍽️ **Menu:**
• Baked Potato Bar with Pulled Chicken
• Kielbasa Sausage
• Homemade Mac & Cheese
• Vegetable
• Bread
• Cookie

**Meal pickup is by reservation only** to help us prepare appropriately and minimize food waste.

Due to volunteer and time constraints, **your reservation will include both meals**. Please only reserve if you are able to pick up on **Saturday, September 26, between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.**

Please use the **LINK provided** to reserve your meals. We look forward to serving you! ❤️

Recently, I was approached with the concern that programs like ours might be “enabling the homeless and poor to stay poor instead of helping them better themselves.” I wanted to take a moment to clarify what we actually do—and, more importantly, who we serve. We feed families, people with disabilities, seniors, individuals facing cancer and other terminal illnesses, and so many others who are simply your neighbors—right here in our own community. Our food boxes and meals are meant to be a bridge, helping households stretch a smaller paycheck or get through when an unexpected hurdle comes along.

We help parents put dinner on the table when the grocery budget has run out, and we give families meal kits with everything they need to prepare a complete meal at home, with confidence and dignity. For someone battling cancer or another serious illness, we help ease the worry of where their next meal will come from while they focus on getting through another difficult day. For our seniors, sometimes what we provide is more than food—it’s a smile, a conversation, a kind word, and the reassurance that someone cares, especially when managing a grocery trip alone has become difficult.

Helping someone through a hard season is not the same thing as asking them to stay there. We don’t believe that needing help makes someone less deserving, less hardworking, or less worthy of dignity. Our volunteers don’t just hand out food. They offer compassion. They offer kindness. They remind people that they haven’t been forgotten.

And if providing a family with enough food to get through a few days means a parent can breathe a little easier, a senior can skip a difficult trip to the grocery store, or someone facing a serious illness can focus on healing instead of dinner—that is something we will always be proud to do. We believe communities are strongest when we take care of one another. We serve with full hearts to provide full plates—so no, we aren’t enabling anyone. We are supporting our neighbors, restoring dignity, and helping people through difficult seasons with compassion and care.

Our volunteers give so much of their time, energy, and heart to Friends of the Community, and we’d love to show them just how appreciated they are! We’re looking for local businesses and community partners willing to sponsor a small treat for our hardworking volunteers. You do nothave to have a brick-and-mortar business to participate, and the treat doesn’t have to be something from your own business! Gift cards to local restaurants, shops, Walmart, McDonald’s, coffee shops, ice cream shops, or even a small gift basket or a few $5 gift cards can make someone’s day. Every little gesture of appreciation goes a long way in reminding our volunteers that the time they give matters. If you or your business would like to bless our volunteers, please send us a message!
**Let’s love on the people who spend their time loving on our community.**

💙 **Volunteer Appreciation: Laura & Company**

Today we’re celebrating **Laura and her family*, who give up their Saturday mornings to help make sure we have what we need to serve our community!

Every Saturday, they wake up early to pick up donations, sort everything, and get it safely stored and ready for our food bank. Their behind-the-scenes work is so important, and we are incredibly grateful for the time, energy, and dedication they give week after week. ❤️

🎁 **Their appreciation gift is a Lollipop's Sweets & Eats gift card, sponsored by Marvin - Managing Partner - Kenneth Rhodes & Associates, Inc. !** Thank you for helping us recognize Laura and her team and celebrate the volunteers who make our work possible.

Would your business like to sponsor a volunteer appreciation gift? **All contributions are tax-deductible**, and your support helps us show our volunteers how much they are valued. Message us to learn more!

💙 **Volunteer Appreciation: Jennifer & Company**

Today we’re celebrating **Jennifer and her family**, who have been with Friends of the Community Upstate since we opened our food bank!

From the very beginning, they have faithfully shown up to serve, help wherever needed, and be part of the work that keeps our food bank moving. Every Sunday, they wake up early to pick up donations, sort everything, and get it safely stored and ready for our food bank. Every Monday, they pack boxes and deliver to those who are homebound. Their continued support and dedication mean so much to us, and we are incredibly grateful to have them alongside us in serving our community. ❤️
