🚗✈️ Your Ride Is Here! Dutch Greeters Welcome Pella Premier Transportation!

Need a ride to the airport but don't want to ask a friend to get up at 3 a.m.? We've got some good news for you!

Our Dutch Greeters recently had the opportunity to meet Austin Hellbush, owner of Pella Premier Transportation, a locally owned private car service helping Pella residents get where they need to go without the hassle of driving, parking, or finding someone to pick them up.

After spending 20 years as a stay-at-home dad, Austin found himself with a little extra time as his children grew older. When someone suggested there was a need for reliable transportation in the Pella area, he decided to give it a try. What started about a year and a half ago with a few rides and word-of-mouth referrals has grown into a business serving regular customers traveling for work, vacations, and more.

While most of Austin’s business involves transportation to and from the Des Moines International Airport, he also offers transportation for other needs, including medical appointments, special events, and customized trips. Whether you need an early-morning airport ride or a trip to another destination, Austin is ready to help.

Pella Premier Transportation offers personalized travel experience, with Austin tracking incoming flights and adjusting for delays to help keep your trip as stress-free as possible. Whether you're catching an early-morning flight or arriving later than expected, Austin works to make sure your transportation is smooth and convenient. Reservations can be made by phone, text, or email, with confirmations and reminders provided before your trip.

One thing we hear frequently at PACE is the need for dependable transportation options in our community, particularly for airport travel. Austin recognized that gap and turned it into an opportunity to serve his neighbors. That's exactly the kind of entrepreneurial spirit we love to celebrate!

Congratulations to Austin and Pella Premier Transportation! Thank you for bringing this much-needed service to the Pella area.

Next time you're planning a trip, skip the airport parking fees and give Austin a call. Your friends and family who would otherwise be getting that 3 a.m. wake-up call will thank you! 😊

You can find Pella Premier Transportation on Facebook to connect with Austin and arrange your next ride. 641-780-8192

🌿 A Breath of Fresh Air for Wellness in Pella!

Our Dutch Greeters recently visited PureO2 Hyperbaric Wellness Center, where owners Rodney and Heather Cadwell are bringing a unique approach to health and wellness to the Pella community!

Opening their doors in May, Rodney and Heather have a personal story behind their business. When their son was diagnosed with Crohn's disease at just 12 years old, they began researching alternative ways to help manage his symptoms. Through that journey, they discovered hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which they say made a significant difference for their son.

The challenge? Receiving treatments meant frequent trips to Des Moines, making it difficult to balance school, athletics, and everyday life. That experience sparked an idea: Why not bring this service closer to home and make it more accessible to others in the Pella area?

And that's how Pure O2 Wellness Center came to be!
So, what exactly is hyperbaric oxygen therapy? We're glad you asked! 😊

The process involves relaxing in a specialized chamber where increased air pressure helps the body absorb more oxygen. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has well-established medical uses for certain conditions and injuries and is also offered as part of a broader approach to wellness.

During our visit, we learned about their two hyperbaric chambers, how the sessions work, and the variety of reasons people are interested in exploring this type of therapy. Each session lasts approximately 80–85 minutes, and the Cadwell’s work with clients to develop individualized plans based on their goals and health history.

What stood out most to our Dutch Greeters was the personal connection behind this business. Rodney and Heather saw firsthand how challenging it could be to access a service their family valued, and they decided to do something about it. Their goal is to provide another local wellness option while helping people better understand what hyperbaric oxygen therapy is and how it works.

We love seeing entrepreneurs turn personal experiences into opportunities to serve their community! 💙

Congratulations to Rodney and Heather on opening Pure O2 Wellness Center! Thank you for welcoming our Dutch Greeters, answering our many questions, and introducing us to something many of us knew very little about before our visit.

We wish you continued success as you grow your business right here in Pella!

🎨 Creativity Runs in the Family at PK Dezin - Home
What happens when your love of crafting officially outgrows your living room? You open a shop!

That’s part of the story behind PK Dezin & Friends, where owner Patti Kloosterman has turned her creativity, and a house that could no longer contain it, into a new space filled with handmade finds.
Patti began crafting in 2022, but creativity has always been part of her life. Her parents were both very creative, and as Patti says, it’s simply “in their blood.” And she isn’t the only creative one in the family!

PK Dezin & Friends is truly a family affair, bringing together seven vendors who are a mix of sisters, a cousin, and friends. Together, they’ve filled the shop with an impressive variety of handmade and unique items, including wreaths, diamond art, purses, jewelry, laser-engraved pieces, seasonal and Christmas décor, and plenty more. With so many different creative styles under one roof, you never quite know what you’ll discover when you stop in.

And if you’re looking for something made especially for you, personalized and custom items are always an option. That makes the shop a great place to find a unique gift or something fun for yourself!

After several years of creating from home, Patti knew it was time for more room. In 2026, she took the next step and opened the PK Dezin & Friends storefront, giving all that creativity a place to grow, be shared, and inspire others. They’re even looking at adding classes in the future, giving customers a chance to tap into a little creativity of their own.

PK Dezin & Friends is open Thursday through Saturday from 11 am – 5 pm at 107 Vermeer Road, Pella.

Congratulations to Patti and all the talented family and friends behind PK Dezin & Friends! We love seeing a hobby grow into a business and another local entrepreneur take the leap to create something new in Pella. Be sure to stop in, explore all the handmade treasures, and ! 💙🌷

🔶Dutch Greeter: Strawtown Inn and Events 🔶

A Pella Favorite Gets a New Chapter at Strawtown 🏨🍸✨

There are some places that hold a special spot in Pella’s history, and Strawtown is certainly one of them. Our Dutch Greeters recently had the opportunity to visit Strawtown, meet owners Nicolle and Dave Picray, explore the property, and celebrate the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this longtime Pella landmark.

Nicolle and Dave have called Pella home for about 11 years, but like many newer residents, they had never experienced Strawtown in its earlier days. After being closed to the public for nearly two decades, Nicolle saw the property listed for sale and immediately saw its potential.

“Our community needs this,” she remembers thinking.

With Pella’s need for additional overnight accommodations and flexible gathering spaces, the couple envisioned Strawtown as a place that could once again welcome people, not only for overnight stays, but also rehearsal dinners, bridal showers, Christmas parties, corporate gatherings, celebrations and more.

Nicolle and Dave purchased Strawtown shortly before Tulip Time and jumped right in, opening the property to guests during 2026 Tulip Time. Talk about a whirlwind introduction to owning a Pella hospitality business!

Today, Strawtown features 17 private hotel rooms, each with its own bathroom and its own unique name and history. One room is even a studio apartment with a full kitchen that can accommodate longer-term stays.

And for those wondering about one of the most frequently asked questions: Yes, the bars are coming back! 🍻

Rather than reopening Strawtown as the full-service restaurant many remember, Nicolle and Dave are creating something that honors the past while giving the property a new future. Immediate and long-range plans include opening the DeKelder downstairs, the Rembrandt Room Bar on the main floor and the Crow’s Nest upstairs, along with the attic rooftop. The goal is to have a relaxed, local happy-hour atmosphere paired with a small-plate menu including a few nostalgic Strawtown favorites such as b**r cheese.
As Dave shared, they want to respect the nostalgia surrounding Strawtown without being anchored to the past, creating new traditions for the future.

We’re excited to see Nicolle and Dave breathe new life into this unique piece of Pella history while creating another place for residents, visitors and businesses to gather, stay and connect.

Congratulations, Nicolle and Dave, and welcome back, Strawtown!

We can’t wait to see what’s ahead.

🔶🔶 DUTCH GREETER: Jersey Mike's Subs 🔶🔶

From the Jersey Shore to Pella, Iowa, a sandwich tradition 70 years in the making has officially arrived in our community!

Our Dutch Greeters recently had the opportunity to welcome Jersey Mike’s to Pella and meet owner Brian Melvin, manager Jessi Meyer, and their team. And while the subs may have brought us through the door, we quickly learned there’s a lot more behind this business than sandwiches.

The Jersey Mike’s story began in 1956 with a small sub shop at the Jersey Shore. In 1975, 17-year-old employee Peter Cancro heard the shop was for sale and, with help from his high school football coach, purchased it. From that one location grew the Jersey Mike’s we know today but the commitment to fresh ingredients, personal service, and community has remained at the heart of the brand.

That combination is exactly what attracted Brian to Jersey Mike’s. After years in the restaurant industry, he said Jersey Mike’s showed him a different level of freshness. Meats and cheeses are sliced for each order, bread is baked fresh in the store, and hot subs are grilled to order. But what really stood out to Brian was the company’s expectation that franchise owners be involved in their restaurants and communities.

And Brian knew Pella was a community he wanted to be part of.
When asked why he chose Pella, his answer made us smile: the community simply felt “alive.” He saw the growth, new homes, businesses investing here, activity throughout town, and people who genuinely wanted to be here. After scouting the community for some time, he knew Pella was where they wanted their next location.

Leading the local team is Jessi Meyer, who has spent months preparing for opening day, including extensive training at the Ottumwa location and a trip all the way to New Jersey to learn more about the history and culture of Jersey Mike’s. She even visited the original location, now used as a training center, and got to sign the wall! Jessie says she’s looking forward to getting to know Pella customers, even joking that she may learn your sandwich order before she learns your name. 😊

The Pella location opened with 24 employees and also offers catering, boxed subs, individual lunches, gluten-free bread and cookies, online ordering, and more.

Community involvement is another important piece of Jersey Mike’s story. Giving back has been part of the company’s culture for decades, and its annual Month of Giving has raised millions for charitable causes across the country.

Brian shared that everywhere his team turned while preparing to open in Pella, they were greeted with people willing to help and welcome them to town.

We think that sounds like Pella. 💙🌷

Congratulations to Brian, Jessi, and the entire Jersey Mike’s Pella team! We’re excited to have you as part of our growing business community and we have a feeling Pella will have no trouble finding a favorite sub.

Welcome to Pella, Jersey Mike’s!
