If “How was school?” usually gets you a one-word answer, try changing the question.

Instead of asking for a summary of the whole day, give kids something specific to think about! These questions can help us connect while also helping kids recognize something important:

“I handled something hard.”

“I figured something out.”

“I’m capable.”

That’s one of the goals behind the Love and Logic approach, using empathy and thoughtful questions to help kids think, solve problems, and build confidence.

Empathy first.
Questions next.

Which of these three questions are you going to try first?

We use this curriculum for some of our parenting workshops. At our “Real Talk” workshops for parents, or watch short videos from Good Inside and discuss them and how they apply to parenting.

LAST WEEK TO REGISTER!
Save the date for Pella in Pink on Sunday, October 4!
Join us at 2 p.m. at the Cordova Park Pavilion at Lake Red Rock for an afternoon of community, support and remembrance. The event includes a short program, family-friendly activities and a 1.2-mile walk on Karr Trail.
Whether you're walking in memory of someone you love, celebrating survivorship, supporting a friend or family member, or simply want to be part of the cause, we'd love to have you there.
This year's event will support the campaign to bring the South Central Iowa Radiation Center to Pella Regional, helping expand access to cancer care close to home.
Register by ordering your event shirt by September 4 at noon at pellahealth.org/pink. We hope to see you there!
