The purpose and mission of the Pel-Cho Mudd Nutz ATV/UTV Club LLC is to promote responsible ATV/UTV sport riding and trail development. This club was started on July 15, 2014 to get establish more trails & town roads in the Pelican Lake and Elcho area open to ATV/UTV use a

nd to develop and maintain a safe and responsible trail system with respect to the environment, land owners rights and applicable laws and regulations. Within the first 6 months of the club startup we were able to attain a membership of over 75 individuals, families and business comprised of both local residents, seasonal visitors and property owners. Our membership has drawn participation from the neighboring states of Minnesota and Illinois, and as far away as California. During our short tenure as a club, we have already been able to gain approval from the Oneida County Highway Department to open all county roads in the towns of Enterprise and Schoepke to ATV/UTV use providing the opportunity for all of our property owners to legally ride to not only the adjoining trail systems but to the local businesses as well. We are now actively in the process of working on trail connections to the Musky Mart in Pelican Lake, additional access along Highway 45 North, as well as developing a trail to the north towards Monico to hopefully, and eventually join the Forest County and Three Lakes Area Trail Systems. To accomplish this we will need to continue to grow our membership, raise additional finances, and most importantly of all display responsible and mature riding at all times as well as respect for the environment that we are riding in. Provided that as members we keep the above in mind, we should be able to not only grow our club, but our riding trail system and interconnections to future trail systems as they are developed.

🚨 TRAIL & GATE REMINDER 🚨

Recently, we have experienced damage to gates and locks on our trail system.

These gates are typically located where public property ends and private property begins. They are in place for important reasons, whether for trail safety, temporary closures, maintenance, or protection of private property.

We want to remind everyone that we are extremely fortunate to have great landowners who allow us the privilege of riding on and through their property. Without their cooperation and support, many of these trails would not exist.

Please remember:
🔸 Respect all gates and closures
🔸 Do not damage locks or barriers
🔸 Closed gates are there for a reason
🔸 Help protect the future of our trail system

Maintaining these trails takes a tremendous amount of time, effort, and coordination from volunteers, clubs, landowners, and agencies. Damage to gates and property can create serious issues and could ultimately lead to trail closures or loss of access.

If you see suspicious activity, vandalism, or damaged gates, please report it as soon as possible.

Let’s all do our part to respect the trails, respect landowners, and keep our riding opportunities open for everyone.

Woah boy! If you’re seeing this image floating around social media, it’s fake and misleading.

While some counties may choose to close trails due to fire danger, those decisions are made locally on a county-by-county basis. It’s important to check official local sources before sharing posts like this online.

If you’re planning a ride, always check with the appropriate local, county, state, or federal agency before heading out.

Some trails are still closed due to spring thaw conditions. Others are already open.

For example, Burnett County currently states on its official website:

“We are currently in our spring fire season. During this time, all trails are closed due to the risk of fire, and many trails are too wet to support ATV/UTV traffic, causing excessive damage. If conditions allow, our Summer ATV/UTV Trail System will open the Friday before Memorial Day (May 22).”

That information comes directly from the county’s official .gov website.

There may absolutely be additional closures around the state, but not every county shown in orange on this graphic is closed. The best way to verify trail status is by checking official county sources directly.

Now let’s talk fire safety for a minute.

Lt. Jake Holsclaw, Off-Highway Vehicle Administrator and Conservation Warden with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, states:

“In most cases, trails are opened and closed based on seasonal recommendations by each county. Some counties may elect to close a trail based on fire conditions. In the event of an actual wildfire, emergency services may close a section of trail as well. Remember all ATVs and UTVs have to have USFS-approved spark arresters before operating on a trail or route.”
