A big thank you to Sergeant Moore and Officer Deerman for stopping by and sharing their knowledge with our cadets! They did a great job teaching the fundamentals of crime scene investigation and giving real-world insight into the work that goes into every case. Our cadets got a lot out of it, and we appreciate you both taking the time to invest in the next generation.

Tonight, the Calera Police Cadets were recognized by the Calera City Council for their outstanding performance in their recent competition. We are incredibly proud of the hard work, discipline, and teamwork they continue to demonstrate while representing our community.

A special congratulations goes to Cadet Heidy Amaro on her promotion to the rank of Cadet Sergeant. Her dedication and leadership have not gone unnoticed.

Chief Hyche had the honor of pinning her new sergeant bars to her collar during the meeting — a well-earned moment and a proud one for her family, fellow cadets, and our post.

Please join us in congratulating Cadet Sergeant Amaro and all of our cadets on a job well done!

Today at our Cadet meeting, we had two outstanding guests who shared valuable knowledge and insight with our future law enforcement leaders.

Victim Services Advocate Mitzie Wheat spoke with the cadets about the important role victim services plays in supporting individuals and families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. She explained how advocates walk alongside victims, providing resources, guidance, and compassion throughout the legal process.

We also had the privilege of hearing from Shelby County Mental Health Officer Zach Andrews, who discussed the critical role mental health plays in public safety. He shared how he works alongside law enforcement to assist individuals in crisis, connect them with appropriate resources, and help ensure better outcomes for everyone involved.

“Professional law enforcement is much more than just catching and arresting criminals. Connecting those in need with community services is vital whether it be drug/alcohol rehab, domestic violence victim services or mental health intervention. It takes a comprehensive effort involving all available resources to truly be effective. “ -Chief Hyche

Help us wish our cadets the best as they compete this weekend in the Alabama Law Enforcement Explorer Competition. They will be facing teams from both Alabama and Georgia while participating in several law enforcement–focused events, including domestic crisis intervention and DUI traffic stop scenarios. We’re proud of the effort they’ve put in and wish them the best of luck!

This Christmas Eve marked Cadet Amaro’s very first ride-along!

After completing extensive training and passing a written exam, our cadets earn the opportunity to see firsthand what life as a police officer is really like. Ride-alongs give them real-world exposure and valuable experience as they prepare for a future in law enforcement.

And getting to hang out with Officer Cooper and K9 Zero was definitely an added bonus!

We’re incredibly thankful for the officers who take the time to mentor, guide, and help shape the next generation of law enforcement professionals.
