Please join us in congratulating Calera Public Safety Cadets Heidy Amaro and Kaleb Wilson on successfully completing the 2026 Public Safety Cadets National Leadership Academy in Fairfax County, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.!
Heidy and Kaleb were selected to attend this national academy alongside Public Safety Cadets from across the country. The week focused on leadership, teamwork, ethics, physical fitness, and preparing young people for future careers in public safety.
While in Virginia and Washington, D.C., they had the opportunity to learn from public safety professionals, visit the DEA Academy, tour the Fairfax County Real Time Crime Center, learn about Explosive Ordnance Disposal, and toured the U.S. Capitol with the U.S. Capitol Police.
This was an incredible opportunity for two young people who have shown a strong commitment to learning, leadership, and serving their community.
We are extremely proud of Heidy and Kaleb and look forward to seeing what they accomplish next!
Congratulations, Heidy and Kaleb! You represented Calera well!

Our Calera Public Safety Cadets, Kaleb Wilson and Heidy Amaro, are having an incredible time at the National Public Safety Cadets Leadership Academy!

Over the past few days, they’ve had the opportunity to train alongside cadets from across the country, tour some amazing public safety facilities, and learn from law enforcement professionals at every level.

This morning, Calera Public Safety Cadets Heidy Amaro and Kaleb Wilson departed for Washington, D.C., after being selected to attend the National Public Safety Cadet Leadership Academy.

Throughout the week, they will join cadets from across the United States as they participate in leadership development, learn about federal law enforcement, study U.S. history, and visit some of our nation’s most historic landmarks.

We are proud of Heidy and Kaleb for earning this opportunity and representing the City of Calera and the State of Alabama on a national stage. We know they will make the most of this experience, and we can’t wait to hear about everything they learn. Safe travels, and good luck!

Our Cadets, along with several other area Explorer programs, recently toured the Shelby County Jail to learn more about careers in corrections.

Today, the Calera Police Cadets participated in hands-on arrest techniques and search/building clearing training. Members of the department’s Crisis Response Team led the instruction, sharing valuable knowledge and real-world experience with our future law enforcement leaders.

A big thank you to Sergeant Moore and Officer Deerman for stopping by and sharing their knowledge with our cadets! They did a great job teaching the fundamentals of crime scene investigation and giving real-world insight into the work that goes into every case. Our cadets got a lot out of it, and we appreciate you both taking the time to invest in the next generation.
