Founded in 1932, the Sons of the American Legion's mission is to strengthen the four pillars of The American Legion. Squadron meetings held 7PM on the second Tuesday of each month at 50 Racquet Club Parkway. Squadron mailing address:

Squadron 555 was established in Spring of 2016 and rece

ived its charter on November 9, 2016 with fifteen charter members. Since then, we have been involved in myriad programs to support our military members, veterans, and communities - receiving numerous awards from the state- and national-level of the organization. Several members hold Detachment-level officer positions with one of our members receiving the honor of 2024 Detachment of Alabama Son of the Year. In 2022, Pelham Mayor Gary Waters, in recognition of the Squadron's efforts to serve veterans and the community, issued a proclamation declaring 9 November as SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION SQUADRON 555 DAY. Squadron 555 was named a national Four Pillars Squadron for 2024 & 2025. Squadron 555 is a part of the American Legion Matthew Blount Post 555 "Triple Nickel" family. Triple Nickel is a complete American Legion family with The American Legion, The Sons of the American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, and The American Legion Riders. 📣FREE TRAIN RIDES! - Friday, June 5, 2026 - Rail Safety Day!

Departures between 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM

The Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum is proud to partner with Operation Lifesaver of Alabama as we work together to educate the public regarding railroad safety.

Short, educational sessions will be provided by Operation Lifesaver representatives throughout the day. Each session attendee will be provided with a FREE ticket to take a ride on the Calera & Shelby Railroad on that day, with departures occurring approximately every 30 minutes.

Between rail safety sessions and train rides, attendees are encouraged to visit the variety of community safety partner booths, vehicles, displays and food vendors available on the grounds.

The free train ride lasts approximately 20 minutes, so bring your sunglasses, a smile and the whole family! It’s a great learning opportunity for homeschool and other youth education groups.
