It's Oyster Roast time!! 🦪🐖🧁🍻
It is time for our 4th Annual Donnie Hult Memorial Oyster Roast and BBQ! We will all gather round the pans on Saturday, November 8th at 6:00pm for an evening of fellowship and feasting at our Chapter Clubhouse! Our seating is very limited and we do sell out pretty quickly, so don't delay! Tickets can be purchased at http://www.whiteoakriveriwla.org/tickets.html
We will have plenty of sides and desserts, too! You can't beat the ticket price and I promise you won't leave hungry! We hope to see you there! 🎉🎉🎉

It is time for our 3rd Annual Donnie Hult Memorial Oyster Roast and BBQ! The Izaak Walton League's 2024 national convention, with the theme "Restoring Our Great Waters – Taking Action Today to Secure a Better Future," is in the books! At Tuesday's panel discussion, convention participants heard from three experts in three regions who discussed habitat restoration, invasive species, nonpoint-source pollution and other challenges. Peter Tango, monitoring coordinator for the Chesapeake Bay Program (shown here) talked about cross-cutting problems in America's largest estuary. Teresa Seidel, director of the Environmental Protection Agency's Great Lakes National Program Office, explained restoration efforts in the region that accounts for roughly one-fifth of the surface freshwater on Earth. And Jeff Janvrin, Mississippi River Habitat Specialist for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, described the importance of helping people identify with a "sense of place" for their watershed.

The Izaak Walton League's national convention includes notable guest speakers, beloved traditions, awards for incredible volunteers - and field trips. Among other choices for outings: The Horn Point Laboratory Oyster Hatchery, which is part of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to oyster production, research and education. Tour groups have the opportunity to see oysters spawn, view baby oyster larvae and get a glimpse of the inner workings of a facility that has produced billions of oysters for restoration efforts throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
