Sorry I have been away from this sight so long.
I (Bob Mosiman) attended a meeting Monday with McNaughton Park management regarding revival of this sight and recruitment of volunteers to help remove invasive species from the park.
Also, the Potawotami Run www.potawatomitrailruns.com/
is scheduled for April 7-10 2016. Hopefully we can round up a few volunteers to spruce things up before the big race. Anybody out there willing to help out? Regardless, get out and enjoy the Park!

Sad to here of the passing of FOMN member Owl Man Dan. Dan was an often hiker in the park, mostly watching the sky and upper reaches of the trees for hawks and owls. He was an active contributer through FOMN, helping with park cleaning projects and adding the bridge on Bluebell Hill. Truly, a friend of McNaughton Park.

Good bye. I'll be moving to Kansas soon so won't be available to work trails in the park. Really have loved clearing trails for folks to enjoy. While I will miss my often walks in the park, I now have a park of my own to take care of. Please keep McNaughton as wild as you can and still have access. Peace, Marvin

Bob is too busy and I won't be here for the November meeting so we need to postpone for a later date.

The connections used by the PPD mower guy to get from one field to another gets pretty closed in, just like the trail. So, this clearing is for you - mower guy!

Sunday, as expected, didn't have as many volunteers but good progress was made. However, I had to bail early to help a sick neighbor. Back is sore, legs are tired, mind is satisfied with the work done and my neighbor could come home from the hospital soon. It's all good! Thanks to all helpers on this project. Keeping the trail open in those areas will be so much easier for years to come! Thank you volunteers!!!!!

Saturday was a very productive day at McNaughton. Max, Bob, Sydney, Arlene, Ben, Bill, and Matt cleared from hair pin to the top of Heartbreak Hill. That's a lot of trail for one day! The amount of time and effort that will save in trail maintenance down the road is huge. Thank you all so much. Now, hope I can get out of bed tomorrow morning for day two!

Cutters, draggers, grubbers. A cutter id's the honeysuckle plant and uses a saw to cut it down. We have some time slots where a chain saw operator will be helping, other times, the cutter uses a sharp hand prunner saw to cut out the plants. Draggers take the cut stems/limbs and drag them away from the trail. Gloves and grunt required! Grubbers pull out the younger/smaller plants, sometimes using a Pulaski to help break them free from the soil. All cut plants get a special herbicide treatment on their stumps.

This next weekend, Oct 19 and 20 are the biggest work days of the year. If you're willing to work any at all, this is the best time to offer your time. I need cutters, grubbers and draggers. Meet at the Sheridan Road entrance (Hair Pin parking) and please let me know if you're coming so I can have the right tools with me. See the schedule below for time slot options. Thanks in advance for your help!!
