"I remember the first time I heard the phrase 'sundown town.' I was so young, I thought it just meant the sunset looked pretty here. I'll never forget the sick feeling I got when I learned what it really meant -- how my hometown could be known for something so ugly. I still get a pit in my stomach when I meet someone new and they say, "Oh... You're from Pekin..."

It is well past time that a light be shone on our town's history, so that we can move forward in that light, and I am so grateful to support this amazing, strong-willed group of justice advocates.

March 13th's rally for Breonna Taylor -- who STILL hasn't received her justice -- was inspiring, educational, and reignited the fire in me to push for justice and equality. 2021 is just beginning, and Pekin is off to a great start ✊"

This was the easy part. This legislation, which should pass with bi-partisan support is insteasd expected to face steep opposition by Republicans in the Senate. In the house it passed 242 to 174. 174 representatives opposed supporting victims of Domestic Violence.
