To the Peekskill Community,

Last night, our city suffered a heartbreaking loss.

A devastating fire on High Street claimed the life of one of our own—a cherished member of a local family and of our broader Peekskill community. Despite the swift and courageous response of our firefighters, who arrived within minutes and fought through dangerous conditions to reach those inside, the individual rescued from the home later passed away at the hospital.

On behalf of the Mayor, Common Council and the entire City of Peekskill, we extend our sincerest condolences to the family, friends, classmates and loved ones mourning the loss of a teenager whose life was taken far too soon. No family should have to endure such a devastating tragedy and our hearts are with all those affected during this incredibly difficult time.

I want to recognize the extraordinary efforts of the Peekskill Fire Department, Peekskill Police Department, and all first responders who acted with urgency, professionalism, and compassion. Their commitment to protecting our residents—often at great personal risk—reflects the very best of who we are.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Peekskill Fire Department, the Westchester County Cause and Origin Team, and the Peekskill Police Department. We will share additional information as it becomes available.

Peekskill is a community that shows up for one another, especially in moments of profound loss. I ask all of us to keep this family in our thoughts and to offer them strength and support in the days ahead.
