On Tuesday, delivered her State of the State address. While she touted clean energy and spoke in defense of New York’s offshore wind sector, the governor missed an opportunity to support affordable renewable energy and energy efficiency policies, which would directly tackle the growing energy affordability crisis New Yorkers are facing.

Please urge Gov Hochul to take meaningful action on reducing energy bills by investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency policies at the link in the bio or at bit.ly/energy-affordability

Instead of embracing expensive, polluting fossil fuels and nuclear reactor buildout, Governor Hochul should invest $1 billion in the Sustainable Future Program that would create 7,400 new jobs, $1.5 billion in economic activity, and $685 million in labor income. In this way our governor will be advancing renewable energy and energy efficiency policies that lower costs for households. Gov Hochul can also increase investments into programs such as the GAP Fund and Weatherization Assistance Program.

One in seven New York households are two or more months behind on their energy bills. The cost of gas is driving up BOTH gas rates and electric rates. New York families look to Governor Hochul to advance proven clean energy and energy efficiency policies that reduce energy bills. It’s time for her to act now.

Two powerful letters. One clear message: No new nuclear in New York.

200 advocacy organizations and the Haudenosaunee Environmental Task Force have sent letters to Governor Kathy Hochul opposing plans to build 5 GW of new nuclear reactors in the state.

These letters highlight the risks of nuclear expansion—from rising costs for ratepayers to unresolved radioactive waste and threats to land, water, and future generations. Indian Point Energy Center closed for a variety of reasons, the cost of upgrading its aging infrastructure chief among them. Reopening it now, with cheaper energy alternatives available, and in the context of the most chaotic and risky presidential administration in American history, is a total non-starter. My statement:

Buchanan, NY — This Friday, impacted community members, elected representatives, and environmental advocates will hold a press conference and rally at the east gate of shuttered Indian Point at 12 p.m. after the announcement on Congress member Mike Lawler's web site that the U.S. Energy Secretary Christopher Wright would be holding a press conference at the plant at 1 PM. The mysterious press conference, which was not announced to the public and does not include most local elected officials, was also announced in the Exchange Monitor.

The STOP HOLTEC Coalition is a grassroots umbrella group of over 138 environmental organizations, three counties and 35 municipalities who advocated for the passing of the Save the Hudson bill S6893(Harckham)/A7208(Levenberg) that called for a halt to the dumping of tritiated nuclear wastewater in the Hudson River, with nearly 450,000 online petition signers.
