Safe Energy Rights Group Empowering Communities to Power the Future Please consider making a donation to continue the fight to halt Spectra's hazardous AIM project.

SEnRG is a group of engaged citizens working together to protect communities in the Northeast from unsafe energy development and infrastructure. We employ our experience and professional expertise to assist those impacted by harmful fossil fuel projects in exercising their rights to safe, sustainable energy. Our goal is to provide credible information and support to ensure that communities of all

sizes can protect their health and safety. To this end, we assist citizens in taking social, legal, and political action as they demand meaningful dialogue and adherence to the law from elected officials and permitting agencies. SEnRG's first project is a legal challenge to Spectra Energy's AIM (Algonquin Incremental Markets) pipeline expansion project. On March 3, 2015, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued the approval certificate for the Algonquin AIM pipeline project, Spectra Energy’s dangerous, and ill-conceived pipeline expansion adjacent to boththe Indian Point nuclear energy facility and a working quarry doing frequent blasting. SEnRG is currently working with several community groups from New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts to fund a rehearing motion to challenge FERC's approval of the project.

There's an alarming development in the works at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). At the same time that the Administration is pushing the industry to build more nuclear plants (the slowest most expensive way to produce electricity) they are also undermining the already insufficient safety standards that set how much radiation people are allowed to be exposed to.

Please go to www.protectbetter.org, and click on 'NRC Comments' to find out about making a comment on this proposed weakening of radiation protections.

This is bad news for public health and safety.

Edwin Lyman, director of nuclear power safety at the Union of Concerned Scientists, warned that the change could ultimately make it so that currently low doses of radiation that workers and the public are exposed to “could increase really all the way up to regulatory limits without any sanction from the NRC.”

He said this could include by having employees work longer shifts and therefore getting more radiation exposure.

Overall, he said, “this is opening the door for sloppier practices” and “worse management.”

The federal government is proposing to overhaul radiation safety regulations for nuclear power, including by eliminating a long-term principle for nuclear safety. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission …

If you can’t attend in person, please register for TODAY’S presentation on nuclear plants in New York and what’s happening at Indian Point:

Nuclear energy is too toxic, too dangerous, too expensive, and too slow to build to be a real solution to the climate or affordability crisis facing New York families. It is also an environmental justice disaster, with Indigenous communities carrying a disproportionate share of the harm. Despite all...

It's great the Food & Water Watch is presenting events around NY State tomorrow (June 30th) regarding the misguided push for new nuclear plants and subsidies for existing ones. Very few people are aware of the risks and health effects of this MOST expensive way to produce electricity.

For anyone in the lower Hudson region, there will be a hybrid event at the Hendrick Hudson library, 185 Kings Ferry Road in Montrose, at 3:30 TOMORROW focusing on Indian Point.

Hope a lot of people can be there in person!

Nuclear is not the solution to the climate crisis. In France they are shutting down reactors during an extreme heatwave because they cannot be cooled.

The Legislature must pass the NYS Ratepayer Protection Nuclear Moratorium Act (S9962/A11433), which would pause new nuclear power projects in New York for 2.5 years to assess the costs and impacts. We should not let Governor Kathy Hochul waste our hard earned money on a false solution.

See the comments for an LTE by SEnRG cofounder Courtney Williams in support of the NYS Ratepayer Protection Nuclear Moratorium Act (S9962/A11433) published by the Peekskill Herald.

This weather pattern has trapped scorching air over the region, pushing temperatures as high as 46C in some areas
