Pictured Rocks High Adventure Trek is back for 2027!

This unforgettable backpacking experience takes you along the breathtaking shoreline of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Hike through towering forests, climb scenic overlooks, and take in some of the most spectacular views on the shores of Lake Superior.

Did you know? 🤔

Hidden within Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation lies one of our most unique natural treasures: Muskrat Lake.

More than just a lake, Muskrat Lake is a rare floating bog ecosystem that has been developing for thousands of years. As plants along the shoreline die and partially decompose, they form layers of peat gradually creating a floating carpet of vegetation on the water's surface that can support grasses, shrubs, small trees, and even the boardwalk. In some places, the bog can actually move or gently bounce beneath your feet!

Muskrat Lake is also home to native species, including fascinating carnivorous plants like pitcher plants and sundews, which thrive in the nutrient-poor bog environment by capturing insects for nutrients.
