The Atkinson County Fire Department had a great day at the recent wellness fair hosted by Unison Behavioral Health! Lt. Henning and Fire & Life Safety Educator Martinez Hernandez taught attendees about the importance of having a home fire escape plan through a fun bracelet activity, where each bead represented an important step to take in the event of a fire emergency.

A big shoutout to all of our personnel who attended and helped make the event a success, and of course to Fire Pup Marshall for stopping by and bringing smiles to everyone! 🚒🔥

🌧️ Needed rainfall! Below are 24 hr totals as of 2:45 pm 5/2/26.

Inland southeast and parts of the Suwannee River Valley received needed 1.5 to 2 inches, less amounts south of Interstate 10.

This rainfall will greatly temper local wildfires today and Sunday, but drier and breezy conditions return Monday. It will take several heavy rainfall events to put a dent in the current long-term extreme to exceptional drought.

We are grateful for the rain - please still heed local emergency response official guidance regarding burn bans.

Today we held our monthly volunteer training session with an outstanding turnout of 27 members!

This month’s training covered several important topics, including a LODD review from a refer transport fire, a detailed discussion on Incident Command Systems with a strong focus on chain of command, and a debrief from members who assisted with the Clinch County and Brantley County wildfires.

We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Atkinson County Chairman Parker Liles for providing refreshments and for taking the time to show his appreciation for the continued hard work and dedication of our members.

Lastly, we are proud to recognize four of our members on their well-earned promotions to Lieutenant. Congratulations to Dwayne Branch, Conner Morris, Rees Henning, and Keith Harper on receiving your red helmets — a symbol of your leadership and commitment to serving our community.

Thank you to everyone who continues to train, serve, and support our mission!
