Wells International Foundation

Wells International Foundation I founded the Wells International Foundation to serve as an administrative umbrella for my professional and personal passions.

Through this organization, I hope to give back at least a fraction of what I've been blessed with in this world! The Wells International Foundation (WIF) is the culmination of years of my struggle to actively pursue multiple professional and personal passions in an “organized” way. Our six Strategic Focus Areas (SFAs) are inspired by these passions – they are:

- Women’s Empowerment
- STEAM Educat

ion (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics)
- The Arts (visual, culinary, and performing)
- Travel / Study Abroad
- Literacy
- Preclinical Safety Training and Mentoring

In 2012, I met a powerful advocate for non-profits at a dinner party in San Francisco. Her name is Sherita Herring and she made a lasting impression on me as she talked about the seemingly infinite number of things one can accomplish through the non-profit arena. Three years later, I took the plunge and engaged her to teach me the basics about this sector and get me started on the road to approval by the IRS. Thanks to her expertise, my application was approved in a short 17 days and we became an official 501(c)(3) organization on October 1 2015. WIF’s inaugural project was the art exhibition entitled Beauford Delaney: Resonance of Form and Vibration of Color that we organized with the French non-profit Association 1901 Les Amis de Beauford Delaney and Columbia Global Centers | Paris (Columbia University’s Paris facility) in Paris in February - March 2016 (The Arts). In conjunction with this event, we organized a program that brought university students abroad for the first time to create a digital Augmented Reality application for the exhibition and its catalogue (Travel / Study Abroad). We also organized a professional development program for K-12 educators who came to Paris to learn to incorporate art and technology into teaching methodologies for science, math, and the humanities (STEAM Education), as well as a scholarly French-American round table discussion on Multiculturalism in Today’s Art World. In successfully incorporating multiple SFAs into this single event, we set the standard for subsequent projects. As frequently as possible, we implement programs that unite two or more SFAs to maximize impact, obtain rapid results, and achieve the greatest possible economic efficiency.

✈️ Help Houston Youth Reach New Heights

This Father's Day, we're raising $1,000 to launch ELEVATE: Houston Aviation Project.

Building on the success of WIF's Philadelphia Aviation Project, ELEVATE will expose Houston youth—particularly Black male youth—to aviation careers, professional mentors, educational pathways, and global experiences that broaden horizons and inspire future success.

As part of the campaign, supporters can bid on a luxury grooming experience generously donated by The Gents' Place Houston.

Today, we're inviting you to join supporters from around the country in honoring someone who has helped shape your journey while helping Houston youth discover new possibilities for theirs.

A New Chapter Begins

WIF is excited to share two important milestones.

1) We have introduced The Beauford Delaney Project, a new initiative dedicated to preserving, expanding, and sharing the legacy of artist Beauford Delaney through scholarship, education, creativity, and public engagement,

and

2) We've also welcomed our Summer 2026 intern, George Henry, who has begun research on the first project to be undertaken through the initiative. Over the coming months, George will explore Delaney's life in New York City through archival research and field recordings that will eventually become a series of immersive soundscapes.

This project builds upon years of research, collaboration, and community support, and we're excited to begin this new chapter.

We invite you to visit the project's new digital home and follow its growth in the months ahead:

🎉 WIF is pleased to welcome its Summer 2026 intern, George Henry!

George is a recent graduate of Amherst College who double majored in Black Studies and Computer Science. As a Q***r, Jamaican, and Mexican scholar, they are deeply committed to exploring the nuances of Blackness across the diaspora while advocating for technologies that are equitable rather than exploitative.

This summer, George will contribute to The Beauford Delaney Project by creating a series of immersive soundscapes mapping Delaney’s movement throughout New York City. Through archival research, field recordings, and musical collage, they will help capture the vibrant and deeply human spirit reflected in Delaney’s work and life.

George’s interdisciplinary background spans Black Studies, archival reclamation, ethics and technology, music production, and aural archives. Their work beautifully reflects WIF’s commitment to scholarship, creativity, innovation, and community engagement.

Please join us in warmly welcoming George to Team WIF! ✨

As May comes to a close, I've been reflecting on a conversation Deborah and I were having recently about hope, community, and the challenges many people are carrying right now.

During our conversation, Deborah said something that stayed with me: "You cannot be growing that hope seed on your own."

The more I sat with those words, the more I saw them reflected in WIF's work this month.

I saw it when United Airlines pilot Cedric Davis returned to Philadelphia schools for a second ELEVATE career day—showing students that aviation careers are within reach.

I saw it when I signed up to read aloud with HYPE Freedom School in Houston this June, continuing a literacy partnership we've sustained since 2021.

I saw it in the relationships we're building in new cities to expand access to mentorship, travel, and career exploration.

Hope grows in community.

It grows when we show up for young people, when we connect them with professionals who look like them, and when we create pathways they didn't know existed.

This is the work we do!

As April comes to a close, I’ve been reflecting on the kind of work that doesn’t always get seen.

The work of showing up.
The work of supporting others.
The work of offering time, care, and presence — even when no one is watching.

This month invited us to consider themes like diversity, volunteerism, and youth leadership.

But what I see, when I step back, is something deeper:
Community care in action.

It lives in the mentor who makes time, in the volunteer who says “yes,” and in the young person who steps forward with curiosity and courage.

At the Wells International Foundation, this is the heart of our work — building a more connected, equitable world through service, leadership, and shared responsibility.

As Wangari Maathai reminds us:
“It’s the little things citizens do. That’s what will make the difference.”

Thank you for the ways you show up, in your life, your community, and the lives of others.

Still reflecting on this special moment in Paris. 💙

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of connecting with artist Waymond Anthony Grier (WAG) at the Art Shopping International Contemporary Art Salon at the Carrousel du Louvre.

His work is inimitable—and we are incredibly grateful that he donated a piece to support the Wells International Foundation Silent Auction.

As the salon wraps up this weekend, we celebrate his work and the global presence of Black artists shaping culture around the world. 🌍
