Our guest speaker today was Pearl native and PHS graduate Scott Gilbert. Scott is a candidate for Rankin County Circuit Court Judge.

We celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the Kiwanis Club of Pearl today with a special lunch meeting at the Holiday Inn. In 1996 the Rankin County Kiwanians who worked in Pearl were driving to Brandon for the meetings. The decision was made to branch off from the Rankin County Club and the rest is history. We were charted by the Rankin County Club and began meeting at what was then Penn’s Fish House off Pearson Road behind Waffle House. We later moved to Bonanza, then to O’Charley’s, The Mississippi Braves Cafe and then to the Holiday Inn and The Lost Cajun. We are now meeting at Moss Creek Fish House. The guest speaker today was Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann. David Kerr, Assistant GM of the Mississippi Mud Monsters and Kiwanis Board member, presented the Lt. Gov. with a Mud Monsters cap and invited him to throw out the first pitch at an upcoming baseball game!

Our guest speakers today at Kiwanis were Pearl High School Art Teacher Felicia Lee and Pearl Junior High School Art Teacher Vashti Graham. They along with Joshua Bagwell, Emma Hovas and their art students have created the first of several murals that will be at the City Hall complex. They have named this area “Art Alley” and it is located in the green space behind the Community Center.

Our guest speaker today was Rankin County Justice Court Judge Bo Agnew. He has served in that capacity for the last two terms. He also currently serves as a municipal Judge in Terry, MS, Raymond, MS and as Judge Pro Tem in Flowood. Additionally he is currently serving as an elected Commissioner for the Mississippi Bar Association. Judge Agnew is a candidate for Rankin County Chancery Court Judge. The election is scheduled for November 3rd.

He is a third-generation attorney, practicing law since 2003. His Grandfather founded Agnew Law Offices over 65 years ago, and he has proudly continued that legacy of service to Mississippi families predominantly in the Chancery Court.

Our guest speaker last week was Pearl Police Department Chief Nick McLendon. He spoke about some of the new technology being used in law enforcement and how they will be able to quickly assess and identify situations.

We are excited about our new member, Nancy Claypool, Branch Manager at the Pearl Public Library. Nancy received her B.S. and Master’s Degree from Southern Miss and worked in another local library before coming to Pearl where she now lives.
Our guest speaker was Ashley Hinton, Assistant Principal at PJHS who spoke to us about all of the amazing things that the kids are doing in the Tech Lab.
It’s a great day to be a Kiwanian!

We were happy to have our friend and Rankin County Supervisor Jay Bishop speak to our group today! You’re invited to visit with us on Tuesday at noon to see what Kiwanis is all about! We always have a great guest speaker and a delicious meal at Moss Creek Fish House!
