UNBOXING - EARLY CHRISTMAS 😁⛑️ Battlefield Partners

So this box shows up from Battlefield Partners and I’m not gonna lie, opening it felt like Christmas morning if Christmas morning involved fake gunshot and stab wounds.

This is medical moulage, fake wounds you pump real blood through so training doesn’t feel like some watered down drill where everyone’s just pretending. They sent us two stab wound pieces and one gunshot wound, which lines up exactly with what we asked for. Machete and blade injuries are one of the biggest threats rangers face out there, so being able to train around that specifically is a big deal for us. One of the pieces, let’s just say the anatomical detail on it was more thorough than we expected. Ten out of ten realism, questionable amount of composure required when fitting it on an actor/ranger.

Jokes aside, this gear is about to make our training significantly more realistic. Students will work through actual bleeding, actual pressure, actual panic, so when something like this happens in the field they’ve already been there.

And that’s really what gets us about Battlefield Partners. It’s not just that they send incredible gear. When we talked to them about wanting more stab and machete wound training specifically, they listened and built exactly that. Most people slap a logo on a donation and call it a day. These guys care whether our rangers make it home.

If you’re running any kind of medical training program here or around the world - definitely would recommend this team 💪🏽🙏.

There is nothing glamorous about this and anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you or selling you something.

Dehorning is a procedure done to put poachers in a place to make a decision of risk v reward. And even then it is not guaranteed. Some gangs will kill a dehorned rhino out of spite. Some because they tracked it for days and it had little to offer so they remove it from the population to not waste their time again. The veterinarians will not cut to the base because rupturing the growth plate ends the animal’s ability to grow it back. So what is left is still something to someone willing to kill for it.

None of us should feel good doing this. Even if it means being up close to one of the most incredible animals on the planet. This is about them. Not us.

Horns grow back in around 18 to 24 months and this has to happen again. All it is doing is buying time. What matters is what you do with that time. This team is a shining example of that. They worked hard, built something real, and have reached a point where they no longer need to do this. That is not luck. That is years of deliberate work.

We were grateful to put five GPS tracking collars on five individuals while the veterinarians conducted their work. Their hard work is work celebrating. Here is to acknowledging a hard reality and the people doing something about it.

**5th ANNUAL SFW CONSERVATION GOLF OUTING**

SFW has been running for nearly 9 years. This outing has been keeping it alive for 5 of them.

Built from nothing in Rockland — no funding, no blueprint, just a mission. This event has been the backbone of SFW at its hardest moments and is now fuel for real growth.

Today, SFW is traveling across Southern Africa upskilling and supporting wildlife rangers on the front lines — protecting rhinos, pangolins, elephants, lions and much more from poaching and extinction. We have our own working K-9 unit, collaborate with conservation organizations across the continent, support aerial rescues, and invest in youth career pathways in communities surrounding these reserves.
We are focused on both reactive measures to this major issue of poaching and loss of our natural world through both reactive and proactive measures to try to get ahead of the curve.

This county made that possible. Still does.

Come golf. Come for dinner and beers at 4PM. Bring a team or fly solo — either way, you’re part of this.

RHINO DEHORNING/HORN TRIMMING

Dehorning is not a solution. It is a window. A last resort that buys us time to fix the human failure that made it necessary in the first place. This is a resort that makes poachers weigh risk v reward. The horn grows back. The threat never left. What we do in between is the only thing that matters.

Still Here.

This is what it actually looks like.
Local staff to pay, specialists to fly in from around the world on a volunteer basis. Ranger teams waiting on training we have to find the funding to deliver. Last June, we had $500 in the bank.

No corporate backing. No guarantee. Just the work. And right now, a new fight has started that could seriously set us back - buy hey. That’s conservation. And this is it in its raw form from us in this position.

But stopping was never on the table. Not for the wildlife. Not for those protecting it. Not for the communities that deserve a future alongside it. You keep going. There is no other choice.
