Our own museum historian, Charles Hinman, was featured this month in a front page story of Hawaii’s newspaper, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser for his tireless efforts in connecting with families of lost submariners.

Charles runs the “On Eternal Patrol” memorial website, which maintains pages and profiles of lost American submariners. He has worked closely with the families of over 4,000 lost submariners across generations, including descendants of the WWII-era USS Herring submarine wreck recently identified by the U.S. Navy.

Virginia-class submarine USS Minnesota completes first deployment

Military Times | 31 July 2026 The nuclear-powered fast attack submarine USS Minnesota returned to Naval Base Guam on July 29, completing its first deployment as the Navy’s first forward-deployed Virginia-class boat. The successful deployment amplified the Navy’s ability to operate and employ advanced capabilities in the Indo-Pacific, a service release noted.
