Renew the New ReNew The New is a volunteer organization committed to stewardship of the of the 37 miles of the New River flowing through Giles County.

ReNew is a group focused on stewardship of the 37 Giles miles of the New River and includes the river guide organizations: New River Angler, New River's Edge, and Canoe The New Outfitters; DGIF, DCR, National Committee for The New River, Giles Sheriff's Department, Army Corps of Engineers, and Giles County personnel; as well as private citizens committed to the preservation and renewal of the hist

oric New River. We are serious about protecting the 37 miles of the New that flow through Giles County. The group has already spearheaded a push for making penalties for littering more enforceable, supported the County in erecting boat ramp kiosks for use by DGIF, installed trash-pick-up bag dispensers at boat ramps; and collaborated with the Giles County Sheriff's department in the apprehension of felons perpetrating graffiti offences on the Ripplemead bridge abutments. ReNew The New is all about the New River.!

All though the temps were hovering around 32 this morning, we had a large group of volunteers show up for our Ramps 'N' Roads cleanup here in Giles County, Virginia. Trout Unlimited took to Big Stony Creek all the way from Floyd. Thank you so much you all.

Thirteen days after last year’s Fall Into The New, Hurricane Helene dealt a devastating blow to the New River Valley in Giles County. Over the next 3weeks, the NRV community and the VT Corps of Cadets responded with a Giles County-led 1200 person strong clean-up along the riverside and within the flood-damaged settlements. In April, at ReNew The New’s annual spring cleanup—Ramps N’ Roads—Giles County sponsored an on-river clean up that, once again, brought out our dedicated river community and over 500 Corps of Cadets. Both the October and April efforts were monumental, hugely successful.

There is so much left to do. As ReNew Giles ponders all that remains to be done to return our beautiful New River to its pre-Helene condition, the county is sponsoring a more focused, community-led, end of summer cleanup. Fall Into The New ’25 is scheduled for September 6. Volunteers—seasoned and newcomers--are asked to gather at Whitt-Riverbend Park at 8:30 that Saturday morning. As always, the cleanup will be followed by a county-provided lunch. More than ever, river lovers are urged to come on out and help renew The New!
