Art and nature spark inspiration and connection. In anticipation of Brenda Castles Film Plight of the Bumble Bee with Live Musical Score
a poem emerged.
What the Light Allows
Knitting with friends we watch the reflected sunlight dance on the horizon.
It’s sunset we face east. Seeing only the reflections the fading angle allows.
In that golden light reflected from the islands in the bay, there is silence and awe.
A question rises- Where are the bees?
Amidst the beauty fear ignites.
As the mosquitos descend,
we wander into the garden to harvest the abundant spinach and lettuce.
Sharing the harvest- a gift of thanks in honor of presence.
No bees…
Fear and gratitude. Awe and concern.
In contradiction we find the wonder of being in this place together.
The next morning, while walking,
we find bees in the clover and amongst the sea roses.
A balm of friendship soothes our worry,
and celebrates discovery.
Befriending the fullness-
learning to notice what’s troubles us receiving what restores and soothes us.
