The HOI Model
• HOI’s focus is long-term development through an integrated, holistic approach of health, education, agriculture, community development, economic development, and spiritual development.
• HOI uses short-term mission teams to work under the supervision and support the residents of Central America to accomplish community-led projects and goals.
• HOI partners with the local commun
ities through their request and invitation, believing each community should direct its own development to ensure projects are based on the actual needs of that specific community.
• To protect the dignity of these communities, HOI does not do for anyone what they can do for themselves outside the context of a mutually agreed upon partnership.
• All of HOI’s employees in Central America (60+) are local residents, work throughout the year to build relationships with community leaders, the government, and other local organizations.
• HOI’s overall goal is to provide support and opportunity for Hondurans and Nicaraguans to lead healthy lives, promote community development, and encourage economic growth.
