Happy National 4-H Week 🍀
There are some things you don’t fully understand the value of until you’re grown: 4-H is one of them.

From the outside, people see the green clover. They see livestock shows, projects, record books, speeches, meetings, contests, ribbons and banners. But those of us who were lucky enough to be raised in 4-H know it was never really about any of those things.
It was learning to walk into a room when you were scared and speak anyway. Learning to shake someone’s hand, look them in the eye and introduce yourself. Learning that if an animal depended on you, you showed up whether you were tired, it was freezing cold, blazing hot, or you simply didn’t feel like it. It was learning how to win with humility and how to lose without letting it break you.
It was finding out that sometimes you can work harder than you ever have, give something absolutely everything you’ve got, and still not be the one whose name gets called. And then learning to come back and try again.

4-H gives kids responsibility before they realize that’s what it is. It gives them confidence before they know they need it. It teaches leadership, service, work ethic, resilience and the importance of being part of something bigger than themselves.
And somewhere between the barn chores, demonstrations, community service, county fairs, friendships, early mornings and late nights, it starts building a person. Years later, the ribbons may be packed away. The projects are long gone. The animals that taught us so much are only memories.
But the lessons stay.
The confidence stays.
The work ethic stays.
The friendships stay.
The ability to get back up stays.

And one day you realize that little green clover had its hand in raising you.Then, if you’re really lucky, you get to stand on the other side and watch it begin raising another generation.
So this week, here’s to every 4-H kid; past, present and still to come. To the parents, volunteers, Extension educators and leaders who pour into them. And to an organization that has spent generations teaching kids not only how to make the best better, but how to become pretty incredible humans along the way.

Buck N Doe 4-H attended Mohave County Fair from Wednesday September 16 to Sunday September 20. 7 Market Beef, 1 Market Swine, 1 Market Lamb, and 1 Market Goat were weighed in and a part of the livestock market and show.
We are super proud of all our members, they walked and showed their livestock with confidence and gave their BEST! They have worked hard for over 6 months and it paid off. Hats off to the parents, for supporting their child(ren) throughout this time. All members received Blue Ribbons in showmanship. Our senior member Gracie Uqualla’s Beef project received Top Mohave County Fed and Bred Beef. The breeder is one of our own Hualapai Rancher, Francis (Oncho) Munoz. Congratulations!!
Our club also had exhibitors in general projects, such as, photography, welding, sewing, arts & craft, nutritional science and clover buds. We have some Grand and Reserve Champions in arts & craft- Nile Bender, Nutritional Science- Nile Bender, Sewing & Textile- Talicyn Lewis, Photography- Lawrence Bravo. We can’t forget our cover buds, they entered gourd necklaces and were such a big help around the animal stalls.
We are already looking forward to next year. It has been exciting hearing the members talk about what projects they’re going to do and what they can do differently.

Friday September 19th. We had both Sheep and Beef show and market.
Cherish was our only sheep member and did great!!
Our beef kids did an awesome job in the ring. All their months of hard work paid off and again learned what we can change up in the years to come. Beef members Vince Querta, Talicyn Lewis, Adley Jo Bravo, Lilly Flores, Gracie, Josiah and Michael Uqualla.

Talicyn Lewis Grand Champion Sewing & Textile.

Also, many blues and red ribbons. They all did such a good job on the projects.

I didn’t get pictures of all projects but as I do I will add them.

A lot has happened these past couple of days at the Mohave County fair.
We had weigh in on Wednesday evening, rabbit, goat and swine showmanship (ALL RECEIVED BLUE RIBBONS) all on Thursday along with just helping where we can. Helping by doing exhibit hall watch, stall area watch and clean up and helping our fellow members prepare for show.
It has been a busy, fun adventure thus far and looking forward to this evening with our Beef show. These kids have worked months to get here and they are already talking about what they can do better in the years to come.

Steers are loaded up. Another to pick up along with sheep goat swine. Heading to Kingman to settle in for a weekend of excitement at Mohave County Fair. best wishes to all club youth and families.

A couple of our club members assisted with the water catchment on the Hualapai Reservation. They helped dig out pipe, load ties, lay ties out for the panels to screw to and learned why it’s important for wildlife.
