Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change—across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. For more than 115 years, Rotary's people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and

It was a meaningful morning at the Welch School celebrating students through the Asset Award Ceremony in partnership with the Peabody Police Department, the Rotary Club of Peabody, MA, and Sandi Drover.

We had the privilege of recognizing a group of impressive 4th grade students who wrote thoughtful essays centered on self esteem. Their words reflected confidence, kindness, and a strong sense of who they are and who they are becoming.

We also honored a talented 3rd grade student for a standout art poster highlighting someone they look up to. The creativity and heart behind the work truly stood out.

Programs like this are a powerful reminder of how important it is to encourage confidence, character, and positive role models at a young age. Thank you to everyone involved in making this such a special experience for the students.

Proud to be part of a community that continues to invest in its future.

Peabody Rotary Club’s Global Scholar, Dr. Kazuhiko Higashioka, visiting from Japan, was honored at a club dinner on Thursday evening. Dr. Higashioka is conducting research at Harvard University on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) that may also be applicable to other collagen-associated autoimmune diseases such as Lupus. Eighteen million people worldwide are estimated to have RA.

The focus of Dr. Higashioka’s project, using both clinical and basic research, is to provide more effective and safer treatments for RA using medications tailored to each Patient's situation. Numerous therapeutic agents, with different mechanisms of action, are available for RA and his research seeks to clarify which treatments offer the best benefit/risk ratio for individual patients and apply them to real-world clinical practice.

In the photo Dr. Higashioka is the 5th person from the left, accompanied by Peabody Rotary Club members.

PEABODY ROTARIANS TUR SALEM POINT

Five members of the Peabody Rotary Club were treated to a tour of the Salem Point Neighborhood provided by Jacquie Valatka, a wonderful tourguide from the nonprofit North Shore Community Development Coalition (NSCDC).

The tour began at the El Punto Urban Art Museum, a small museum that houses an exceptional variety of paintings and pieces done mostly by Salem Point Residents of multi-ethnic backgrounds.

From the museum the walking tour continued through neighborhoods where enormous murals adorned the entire sides of buildings. Jacquie explained the meaning of every mural and how the elements within each mural symbolize aspects of life within the countries from which the residents migrated.

After the tour Jacquie and Rotarians enjoyed delicious lunches at Ray Adeas Mederterranian & Jamaican Restaurant.

This was a five star experience that we recommend highly!!
