As many of you know, KRIM’s managing member and station manager, Chris Higgins, passed away unexpectedly just after the New Year. Chris was the lifeblood of the day to day operations of the station, so KRIM has been in a state of flux as the kinks of transition are being worked out.
Randy Roberson has graciously stepped into the position as the new managing member and station manager. Randy has been with the station for many years producing the news, and he brings decades of experience in radio, among so many other things. We appreciate the compassion of the community as everything moves slowly in a new direction.
Chris was, to the exhaustion of most people, a jack of many, many, many, many trades, and he had an all-consuming passion for Payson High School Longhorn Athletics. He was actively involved for more than a decade in bringing as many local high school sports events as he could to livestream, on both Facebook and You Tube. He was assisted by several great men and women who broadcast alongside him to bring football, basketball, softball, soccer, wrestling, and more into your homes, so parents, families, and supporters could watch even the furthest away games.
Now that he is no longer here to be your “voice of the Longhorns”, Brian Bowman of Payson Tire and Automotive and Mark Henning have agreed to step in and carry on Chris’ legacy of broadcasting Longhorn sports. They will be assisted by others who have also generously offered their time. (Tonight’s game saw Les Barr at the microphone)
Chris was a one man machine, and he not only handled all the planning, travel, and technical aspects of broadcasting, he also single-handedly went out and secured business sponsors to cover the cost of each season. His passing has left a massive hole, not only at the station, but the school, and community at large.
KRIM now needs businesses, organizations, and even families, who would like to support carrying on his vision, to become sponsors for the broadcasts and help underwrite the costs of operation. Chris’ ultimate goal was to expand the work to be able to make a classroom program, bringing in students to learn and participate in the broadcasting experience. Brian and Mark have expressed that they would love to still see that happen.
If you would like to financially sponsor Longhorn sports broadcasts and keep alive the dream Chris had for this community’s youth and families, please contact Randy Roberson via Facebook messenger or by phone at the station (928) 468-5746.
Thank you for your grace as we continue onward the work Chris loved so much. KRIM—community radio for a community that cares.
**You will notice a donate now button pops up in this post. Please DO NOT use that link. We realized after we hit it that it is attached to a non-working account and Facebook will not allow us to remove it. Sponsors/donors please instead contact Randy Roberson for how to sponsor. THANK YOU.
