Pawtucket Backpackers

Pawtucket Backpackers Pawtucket Backpackers a 501(C)3 providing supplemental food for students facing food insecurity. With 77% poverty in our schools, the need is great.

The Pawtucket Backpackers are a group of caring community members that want to fight hunger among our students. We are currently providing food assistance to 250 students on weeks including vacation weekends. Each child receives 2 breakfast items, two lunch/dinner items and 2 snack items. The cost per student is approximately $3.50 per week. 100% of the funds contributed provide food supplement.

There are no paid employees. All work is done through volunteers, from shopping, packing and delivery. For additional information, leave a message or contact Pawtucket Backpackers volunteer coordinator Kaydi McQuade

📚 Missed the Back to School Celebration?

If you were unable to attend one of our 27th Annual Back to School Celebration sites, there may still be backpacks and school supplies available.

Families can contact 211 Rhode Island to learn about available backpacks. Supplies are limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

Thank you to our volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who helped make this year's celebration a success and support thousands of Rhode Island students as they prepare for a great school year!

Today, the Pawtucket Backpackers, with the support of Fallon Elementary and their volunteers had the opportunity to provide food for 191 families facing food insecurity. In addition to tables of shelf stable food, we were also able to provide 3,950 lbs of produce! We had apples, pineapples, plantains, lettuce, romaine, onions, carrots, potatoes, cauliflower, mangoes and more! What a wonderful day to be able to help so many in need!
Thank you to the Fallon PTA, Winter Wonderland volunteers, Fallon teachers and the Pawtucket Backpacker volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this happen!
