AMOR is an alliance of grassroots organizations, providing community support in Rhode Island and southern New England for victims of hate crimes and state-sponsored violence. The AMOR Alliance was formed in 2017 and is made up of five grassroots organizations: Providence Youth Student Movement, Direct Action for Rights & Equality, The FANG Collective, Colectivo Sin Fronteras and Ocean State Advoca

cy (OSA). Together we aim to support our communities by crowdsourcing resources to provide:
- Emergency/immediate legal services to protect people from ICE and other law enforcement agencies,
- Culturally competent psychological services,
- Supporting and tracking incidents and victims of hate crimes,
- Protecting our communities against all forms of violence, especially state sponsored violence.

🌽Thank you everyone for turning out to AMOR’s sixth annual grill off!

We were so thrilled to have so many folks in the community come through to celebrate our creativity and love for food and the fight for social justice!

The Grill Off takes a lot of coordination, planning and investment from the teams that compete. So we would just like to thank the grill chefs and their organizations for making this event as incredible and delicious as it was!

We would like to thank the teams: The Gay Grill Gods represented by chefs E and Eilish,, PrYSM, represented by chefs Davide & Olivia, PSL, represented by chefs Sajo and Todd, Damacia’s Antojitos represented by chefs Yuselly and Damacia, ARISE, represented by chefs Sarath and Sandy, Feast & Fettle, represented by chefs Bob and Alyna, and the AMOR Leadership Committee, represented by chefs Patty and Tita.

Everyone came through with some amazing food. It was truly a reminder of how the spirit of competition and food can really bring people together.

The winners of this year’s grill off were chefs Sarath Suong and Sandy Wright, from Team ARISE! This marks the second time this team has won the competition and the fourth win for Chef Sarath!

We look forward to hosting this event again next year! So if you were inspired by the teams and the food this year, it’s never too soon to start testing your menu…just sayin’

Through the contributions of sponsors, ticket sales, raffle entries and your generous donations we were able to raise over $9,000!

Meet the final 3 teams competing this year:

🔥PSL of RI
Last year was the first time RI’s PSL chapter participated in the AMOR grill-off. However, the chefs cooking in the competition this year, Chefs Bean and Sajo, are completely new. We are excited to see what they throw down on the grill!

🔥Damacia’s Antojitos
Damacia’s Antojitos is the last team to enter the competition. This will be the team’s first time competing in the grill-off. AMOR board member Yuselly will be one of the team’s chefs so we expect her to bring her own lessons from attending previous grill-offs. We look forward to tasting what they dish out!

🔥Leadership Committee
Although the AMOR Leadership Committee has past experience in the grill-of this will be the first time competing for both of this team’s chefs. These two experienced chefs signed up to throw down. We are excited to taste what they bring to the competition!

Meet the first 4 teams competing:

🔥Gay Grill Gods
Eilish and E are a dynamic d**e duo passionate about grillin’ food and fighting fascism. They’re ready to outgrill, outplay, and outlast the competition.

🔥PrYSM
As one of the founding organizations of AMOR the PrYSM team has competed in all six grill offs. However, chefs Davide and Olivia have never represented the team! We expect their previous experiences will give them a leg up over the competition. We are excited to see what culinary magic this team will bring to the competition!

🔥 Feast & Fettle
Feast & Fettle has fielded a team for the AMOR grill-off for the first time ever. Sponsored by an acclaimed meal prep service we anticipate Chefs Bob and Alyna will be putting up fierce competition. We are super excited to taste what they throw on the grill!

🔥 ARISE
Chef Sarath and Sandy join us after a three year haiatus, representing ARISE. This team should not be underestimated. Chef Sarath was the undefeated champion up until he layed down his spatula after his last win with Chef Sandy in 2023. We are excited to feast our eyes and our taste buds on what this team serves up.

Rhode Islanders are fed up with our resources being used for the inhumane ICE detention. Make your voices heard as we assemble at the State House.

At the Senate hearing yesterday we heard politicians spread dehumanizing propaganda implying that people held in detention are dangerous. What this propaganda seeks to erase is that the people held in ICE detention are not being held due to crimes, but rather due to accusations of civil immigration violations. Right now under this administration the majority of people held in detention have open cases, meaning they sought to follow a process under the law and ICE swooped in to detain them while they were doing so. That is why we say time and again people should not be imprisoned for civil immigration violations. Immigration is not a crime and detention is not making our community safer.

Join us at the Lobby Day to tell your legislators why you believe RI should bar the use of state and municipal resources for ICE detention.

📣Take action!

The Wyatt Detention Center detains immigrants through its Intergovernmental Service Agreement (IGSA) with ICE. This contract allows ICE to use state and local resources for detention. Prohibiting IGSA contracts would effectively eliminate immigration detention in Rhode Island.

Folks detained at the Wyatt Report:
🚨Medical neglect and unsanitary conditions including unclean water
🚨Lack of access to timely communication with the outside world
🚨Racist and anti-immigrant ridicule by prison administrators
🚨Punitive reprisal for communicating grievances

Join us for a Press Conference on May 4th at 4:00 PM outside of the Wyatt Detention Center in Central Falls, where we’ll be calling on the Rhode Island State Legislature to pass House Bill 7436 and Senate Bill 2278 to end ICE contracts in all Rhode Island detention centers.

Led by AMOR and the Women’s Fund of Rhode Island, we’ll be listening to the lead sponsors of the bills, Representative Giraldo and Senator Acosta; and community advocates talk about the importance of pushing ICE out of our community.

Lastly, our research team will also be revealing some new information found in recent FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) results.

As Rhode Islanders, when we take away their infrastructure for kidnapping and detaining our neighbors: state property and state resources, we show our collective dissent, and we refuse as a state to participate in ICE terror. ICE OUT NOW!
