Forest Focus: Flowers 🌼

Last week we explored the beautiful blooms around us! We read Fletcher and the Springtime Blossoms by Julia Rawlinson, had a chance to get out our huge flower to see the different parts from a bug perspective, then went out to the pasture to collect wildflowers.. some little friends sorted the different parts of their wildflowers while others decided to keep theirs to take home 😊

We also had some fun creek finds! Our tadpoles finally made another appearance (much larger ones this time!) and we found the tiniest crawdad.

Forest Focus: Frog Lifecycle 🐸

Last week, we jumped into learning all about how a tadpole becomes a frog! We didn't have any luck finding tadpoles in the creek but luckily we had a few visiting! Some even had their legs already!

We read the book Tad by Benji Davies & formed our playdough "frog eggs" into each stage- from tadpole tails to adding legs, then arms, and finally into frogs! They were some cute frogs! We also had "frog egg" sensory play that was added to the mud kitchen (luckily they were just chia seeds 😜) but they felt like the real thing!

The best part, of course, was free play in the fairy garden- exploring & experimenting with dirt & water! Join us from 10-1:30pm this Tuesday as we let our forest learning bloom! 🌼

There are three more Tuesdays in the Trees sessions left for the spring season! Join us this Tuesday from 10am-1:30pm to play in the creek, explore the woods & learn a bit about the forest with the weekly "forest focus" activities! This week we'll be focusing on a frog's lifecycle!

💦💦Tuesdays in the Trees Cancelled Today💦💦

Hi friends! It looks like the chance for light rain has changed to heavy rains during our meeting time. For everyone's safety today will be cancelled- our creek area can be dangerous for little ones during this weather and we do not have a covered space to seek shelter.

We hope to meet next week and finally explore the growing tadpoles in the creek!

Forest Focus: Earth Day 🌎

Last week, we honored our wonderful planet by reading one of my favorites- The Lorax by Dr. Seuss! Then we made seed bombs and had a sensory-friendly craft- creating tiny earths by rolling blue and green felt in warm, soapy water!

Our creek time included spotting two snakes! And a ton of tiny tadpoles.. so this week we will be exploring the lifecycle of a frog 🐸 Join us this Tuesday 10am-1:30pm!

We will still meet if there's rain however, if thunderstorms are in the forecast we will hop into learning about frogs next week (I will post an update Monday evening).

Forest Focus: Wild Rabbits

Last week our Riverbend friends explored ways rabbits defend themselves in the wild- then they were put to the test! We..
🐇 played a predator game to explore peripheral vision (ever wonder why rabbits eyes are on the side of their head?!)
🐇 tried our jumping skills over a widening stream
🐇matched items from the forest to some real rabbit pelts (they are masters of camouflage)!
Turns out we'd have a great group of bunnies!

Join us for Tuesdays in the Trees tomorrow! You'll be "hoppy" you did 🐇 (Check out the event page for more details)

Last week we explored magical mosses! Getting a closer look at star & feather moss on the trail, creating little moss terrariums, and reading the book Mossy from one of my favorite childrens authors- Jan Brett!

Our creek time was also exciting as we found otter s**t and spotted a few new creek critters 🦦 💦
