Marching through time Pawnee's Oldest Living Veteran is the 2026 Grand Marshal
Norman "Sapp" Underwood

Norman "Sapp" Underwood of Pawnee celebrated his 97th birthday on April 24. He is believed to be the oldest living veteran in Pawnee, where he was raised as one of four children.
Norman married Margaret Lowe of Witt, IL, in 1954, and they had four children: Marsha, Joe, Steve, and Jim. Following Margaret's passing in 1983, Norman met Marilyn Fitzpatrick, and they have been companions for over 40 years. His family has grown to include six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A veteran of the US Navy, Norman served on the USS Yellowstone during the Korean War. He remains sharp-witted and enjoys sharing his military experiences with younger generations. After 20 years of service, he retired from the State of Illinois- Central Management Services. He also spent time farming and continues to enjoy being on the farm, as well as deer and turkey hunting.
Norman is honored to serve as the Grand Marshal for this year's Pawnee Prairie Days Parade.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Prairie Days weekend! We would like to express our thanks to our Performers, Vendors & Volunteers, who added to the festivities. We are also grateful for the support of the Village of Pawnee and everyone who attended. Your involvement was essential to the event's success.
