There is alot going on in Paw Paw Michigan these days!

On May 2nd We cut the ribbon on the new Maple Island Bridge.

Maple Island Bridge facts:

New bridge is 200 feet long and was designed by Abonmarche Engineers and built by Riverworks Construction.

Replaces a bridge built in the 1930’s as part of Franklin Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration.

New bridge cost $772,953 to construct, with $300,000 coming from the State of Michigan’s Natural Resources Trust Fund, and $353,000 coming from the federal government’s American Rescue Plan Act.

New boat dock on the island will be donated by the Maple Lake Association.

Pier spacing and bridge deck designed to replicate the ‘navigable’ space under the original bridge.

The dam on Briggs Pond has been reconstructed and, in the words of David Rivette, "the design is not only functional but also aesthetically striking, a true testament to innovative problem-solving," Thank you David.

Dam @ Briggs Pond, Facts:

New dam designed by Barr Engineering (Minniapolis, MN) and Village of Paw Paw.

Constructed by Milbocker & Sons (Allegan, MI)

1st Labyrinth style dam in Michigan

Built to 200-year flood/rainfall standards

Approximate cost of $3million, with approximately $2 million coming from the State of Michigan thanks to Sen. Nesbitt's support

Project not yet complete - still to come is: lighting, safety railing, grass reseeding and possibly other landscaping details.

Come back to hear more.

Regarding the Memorial Bricks at the Amphitheater Park:

Last year, the Village shared the attached notice regarding the memorial bricks located in the sidewalk near the amphitheater.

Over time, that section of sidewalk became a safety concern, with multiple trip-and-fall incidents reported.
For years, our Department of Public Services worked to stabilize and repair the brick area, making several attempts to preserve it in place.
Unfortunately, due to constant foot traffic, weather exposure, and winter snow/ice removal, the condition continued to deteriorate. In some cases, the bricks had become so worn that the engravings were no longer readable.

After careful consideration, it was determined that the sidewalk was no longer the most appropriate long-term location for the memorial bricks. The bricks were carefully removed, placed on pallets, and are being safely stored until a more suitable and respectful permanent solution can be determined.

With the number of projects currently underway this year, we have not yet been able to address the memorial brick relocation, but please know they remain secure and have not been forgotten.

If you purchased a memorial brick and would like to reclaim it, please let us know. Otherwise, we appreciate your patience as we work toward identifying the best way to honor and preserve these memorials for the future.

To reclaim a brick please contact email Mary Springer at:

Thank you for your patience and continued support.
