We don’t just teach stewardship. We practice it. 🌲

Thanks to our conservation easement partnership with the Adirondack Land Trust, we have been named a Highlighted Institution in the 2026 Sustainable Campus Index.

The easement protects 2,800 acres surrounding our Visitor Interpretive Center, limiting development and safeguarding forests, wetlands, waters and wildlife habitat for generations to come. As a part of this, we continue to own the property and practice sustainable active forest management, while the VIC remains an outdoor classroom and living laboratory where students learn by working in the landscape.

This is what stewardship in action looks like. Protecting the land while keeping it accessible and part of the educational experience that we offer.

The Ganzi is back 🍽️

Starting September 16, The Ganzi opens its doors for the fall semester, giving guests the chance to experience a three-course tasting meal while Paul Smith’s College students put their skills to work in a real restaurant setting.

Each tasting is an opportunity for students to bring their craft to the table, from the kitchen to the guest experience, while giving diners a taste of what’s possible when food and learning come together. Tastings are available Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 11:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Biodiversity starts on our plates 🍽️

Join us on October 6 for a panel discussion exploring how food can support biodiversity, regenerative agriculture, and resilient communities.

Chef Daniel Humm of Eleven Madison Park will join farmers, educators and conservation leaders for a conversation moderated by our own Chef Robert Dumas. Together, they’ll explore the Champlain-Adirondack Biosphere Network (CABN), a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and part of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme.

Biosphere reserves are internationally recognized sites designated to test and demonstrate balanced relationships between people and nature. Here in the Adirondacks, that means looking at how agriculture, food, education and stewardship can work together to build a more resilient future.

A strong start on the pitch⚽️

Both men’s and women’s soccer teams are undefeated to open the season. It’s another early sign of the strength across our teams, where Bobcats are competing hard and representing the College with pride. From the soccer field to the woodsmen arena, our athletes are building something worth watching.

And there’s plenty more season ahead.

Another year of growth for Paul Smith's College 🌲

For the third year in a row, we’re welcoming a larger incoming class, with new student enrollment up 45% over that time.

More students and families are choosing an education where learning happens in the woods, on the water and through real work. They’re coming to build, explore, solve problems and gain the experience that prepares them for what comes next.

And that opportunity is reaching more students. 34% of our incoming class are first-generation college students, with programs like HEOP and TRiO helping open the door to a Paul Smith’s education.

As Paul Smith’s College prepares to receive 236 undergraduate students this fall, it today announced its new student enrollment has increased over 45% over three recruitment cycles, sustaining last year’s historic growth.

We have officially started a new academic year at Paul Smith’s College.

At Convocation, our community gathered to welcome the Class of 2030 and celebrate the work, curiosity and determination that define the Smitty experience. In his keynote address, Dr. Antonius Rivera '00 encouraged students to take advantage of the unique experiences that Paul Smith's College offers:

"What makes Paul Smith’s different is what happens once students get here: They are known, challenged, supported and given the opportunity to learn by doing. That combination is what makes Paul Smith’s a place where students can discover what they can accomplish and who they are meant to be.”

That message fits this place. At Paul Smith’s, learning doesn’t stay inside a classroom. It happens on the trails, in the forest, on the water, in the kitchen, in the lab and wherever real work needs to be done.

Here’s to a year of getting out there, getting your hands dirty and discovering what you’re capable of.
