When it comes to cookie-cutter colleges, Paul Smith’s is anything but. In fact, we’re the only 4-year college inside the boundaries of the world-famous “forever wild” Adirondacks. Students at Paul Smith’s College experience a hands-on education that combines proven career training with a meaningful exploration of self, society and the earth:

- if you’re a forestry major, you’ll play a role in the

sustainable management of the college’s 14,000-acre property

- if you’re a fisheries and wildlife science major, you will learn to tag and track different species

- if you’re an entrepreneurial business studies major, you will write a working business plan for a local operation

Living and learning here requires a special kind of student – someone who values the abundance of our natural landscape and embraces our spirit of creative self-reliance. We call ourselves Smitties and the Smitty experience is one-of-a-kind: http://www.paulsmiths.edu/about/why-paul-smiths/

We'll see you again soon!🍃

For nearly 30 years, our Adirondack Watershed Institute has been protecting the waters that define the Adirondacks.

From one of the region's longest-running lake monitoring programs to inspecting more than 83,000 boats last year to stop invasive species, AWI combines science, community partnerships, and student engagement to protect water quality across the Adirondack Park and beyond.

The work happens here, but our impact reaches millions. Learn more about AWI's latest milestones in water protection and stewardship at the link in the comments.

We don't just study places. We go there 🌍

Recently, Paul Smith's College students returned from a journey through Scotland, where they explored historic approaches to housing design firsthand. From medieval streets in Edinburgh to centuries-old castles, canals, and villages, students examined how people lived, built, and adapted to changing social and environmental conditions over time.

The experience went far beyond textbooks. Students learned about living conditions during the Black Death, explored both preserved and restored historic structures, connected with local culture in Scottish pubs, and sampled traditional foods.

At Paul Smith's College, history isn't just something you read about. It's something you experience by standing where it happened and seeing how the past continues to shape the places people call home.

A Paul Smith's story comes full circle.

Last week, we surprised Chef Lendell Eaddy '05 at Southern Adirondack Education Center with the news that he will be inducted into the Paul Smith's College Alumni Hall of Fame.

Years ago, a high school visit introduced Chef Eaddy to Paul Smith's College and changed the course of his life. Today, as a BOCES culinary instructor, he's doing the same for the next generation by teaching skills, building confidence, and helping students find their own path forward. It's a powerful reminder of what's possible when educational partners invest in students and stay connected long after graduation.

Congratulations, Chef Eaddy!

From campfire skillets to career pathways 🥞

Today, students from the St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES Seaway Tech Center joined us at the Paul Smith's College VIC for a firsthand look at our unique approach to culinary arts. We started the day with a campfire breakfast cookout and then explored a bit of our 14,000 acre classroom along the Boreal Life Trail.

Paul Smith’s College and BOCES programs share the same foundation in hands-on learning that leads to real careers. We don’t just teach students how to cook. We prepare them to lead, adapt, and create wherever the work takes them.
