Update on things discussed at meeting…
Sara Higdon’s seat on the board expired and Nancy Jackson was nominated and voted in to take her place.
Seats to expire in 2025 are Tony Ballard and Sammy Short.
Johnny Hatcher will be looking for someone to take his place as President. He has someone in mind to nominate but did not do so at this time.
The meeting with the Methodist Church and board members that took place on June 19, 2023 was discussed about the options to buy the land that the cemetery is on. The deed to the land belongs to the Methodist Conference, NOT the church itself.
Johnny Hatcher, Jeremy Lollar, and Robert Bridgers put in small gate to allow access to the African American cemetery that was recently recovered in the wooded area just outside of the fence that surrounds the property. They also put in a new post on the gate that was damaged.
Alan Skidmore removed an old tree and is said to bring some gravel in for access road.
Randell Bridges is still set to mow the property at $500.
Johnny Hatcher and Mr. Bridges will spray around tombstones to keep from the need to mow as often.
Harold Wilson to continue with dirt work at $60. Funeral homes have been asked to charge the families the $60 extra to cover the cost but the Association will pay him regardless of if it is collected on their end or not.
Donations were received at the end of the meeting at a total of $775 and are much appreciated to help with the costs of upkeep and maintenance throughout the year.
