It was sunny and hot, then rainy and cold, but at the end of the day our crew had a fun day competing. We tried new shooting events, used equipment we are still learning and getting better with, and even tried our hand at a hunters education and wildlife knowledge skills test. Lots of learning, growth and tips for next time are being brought home. Best of all we spent the day with fellow 4H club members, doing what we love! Way to represent Waller County 4H Marksmen! Our own Erin Stokes received a FedEx from the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Achery competition! Apparently something happened in the classes and she won 4th place instead of 5th like we thought!

What a great accomplishment for her! Way to represent the Marksmen Team and Waller County!

Another local competition last weekend! This was a Fun Shoot using a field archery course with some 3D targets mixed in.

• Aidan ended up 1st place in Intermediate Compound Pins - Male

• Erin ended up 2nd place in Intermediate Compound Pins - Female (I seriously question this result for many reasons but it was a “fun shoot” and we let it go)

• Coach Stokes ended up 3rd place in Adult Compound Pins

First archery practice of the season! Not everyone could make it to practice today, but we still had fun!

Extra special thanks to Safari Club International- Houston Chapter and Safari Club International for donating a Deadnuts Outdoors interactive target to help teach our members about vital locations as part of our hunting and wildlife program!

If you haven’t seen these targets, shoot them message… it’s awesome and had the kids wanting to shoot more and more!

Waller County Representing up in Burleson County today!

Our great, somewhat local, Mike Myers Memorial shoot up in Caldwell, TX was today and we had 4 Marksmen team members shooting as well as 4 adults (this shoot has a couple classes that adults can compete in as well)!

Spent the day at the Texas 4-H Conference Center. These Marksmen had a great time trying new disciplines and competing in catagories pretty new to them. Way to go crew!

Waller County is home to many Gray Fox! Our 4-H Hunting & Wildlife youth learn about identifying lots of wildlife from skins, skulls, wings, s**t and even prints!

Great reminder to all Texans! We have been saying for years that the Black Bears are coming back!

Know what you can and can’t do!

Texas Fish & Game began a black bear awaraeness program back in 2007 and has distributed thousands of these flyers around the state. Now, seeing black bears is becoming fairly common in certain areas. Have you seen a black bear in Texas or captured one on a trail camera?

A little more local competition this weekend in Caldwell, TX… only two of our members could make it for an all day event (we were on the road at 5:30am and got back at 9:30pm). Shooting in 5 competitions and bringing home 3 ribbons!⁣
