Alright humans… Liberty here. 🦮✨
Senior Guide. Full-time professional. Part-time Wayne supervisor.
We need to talk about something very important…
People stroking me while I’m working.
First of all — I get it.
I’m stunning.
Blonde. Glossy. Athletic.
Walking down the street like a four-legged supermodel.
Meanwhile… the bloke on the other end of the harness?
Would be walking into bins if I took a tea break.
Yes Wayne, I said it.
When my harness is on, I’m not out for a social meet-and-greet.
I’m actively preventing this man from headbutting lampposts, stepping into traffic, and missing kerbs like it’s an Olympic sport.
And just in case anyone missed it…
My harness literally says: “Please don’t distract me. I’m a working Guide Dog.”
Yet still…
“Hello beautiful!” stroke stroke
“She’s lovely!”
Meanwhile I’m thinking:
“If you distract me and he walks into a bollard, I’m the one responsible for this operation.”
If you stroke me, whistle at me, click at me or call me while I’m guiding, my focus shifts.
And my focus is the only thing keeping Captain Chaos here walking safely and in a straight line.
Let’s put it this way…
You wouldn’t distract a pilot while they’re landing a plane.
You wouldn’t grab a surgeon mid-operation.
So please don’t distract a guide dog mid-crossing.
Let’s be honest…
Wayne can’t see where he’s going.
He sings randomly.
Talks to himself.
And occasionally forgets where he’s put his own phone.
I am the organised one in this partnership.
So here’s the deal:
Harness ON = I’m working. Ignore me.
Harness OFF = I accept admiration, compliments and world-class fuss.
Best thing you can do?
Talk to Wayne, not me.
I promise I won’t be offended — I’m busy keeping him alive and facing the right direction.
If you didn’t know this before, don’t worry — now you do.
Education is everything and most people mean well. 🧡
Please share this so more people understand how guide dogs really work. And drop a comment if you’ve ever seen a working guide dog being distracted — or if you’ve learned something new today.
Help me do my job properly…
and I’ll keep him Walking Tall.
