This weekend we had our 7th annual Ekushey February/International Mother Language Day event "Liberation & Resistance Through Music" at The Paterson Museum with poignant performances by Mr. Shohid Ahmed, Mr. Syed Islam and The Bangla Band in honor of the Bengali Language martyrs and the international movement that was inspired by their sacrifice.

Deep Gratitude to the Folklife Center of Northern NJ, National Endowment for the Arts, Passaic County Community College & the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for their partnership and support for this event and these incredible performers!

Hope can seem like a luxury during difficult times, but as long as we have one another we have hope.

Celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dod you know that his efforts and the efforts of Black civil rights leaders lay the path for the opening up of discriminatory immigration laws in the 60s which made the journey of our Bangladeshi communities to this nation possible. Many of the nonviolence tactics he utilized and exemplified were those used by Ghandi and those protesting British Rule in South Asia. So much history, so many connections, may we all prioritize a commitment to justice and equality for all today and every day.

We share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Co-Founder Tania Chowdhury’s father. One of the first elders to build up the Bangladeshi community in Paterson, and the first public school teacher of Bangladeshi background. He was a truly a trailblazer of this community, a trait his incredible daughter takes after him. May he no longer suffer, please share your love and prayers for this extraordinary life and man.
