Matt Ostroff, APN, met Sara when she was brought to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital at the age of 11. Sara had spent months at another hospital struggling with the symptoms of an unknown illness. During that time, she also developed a fear of needles after enduring countless needle sticks.
After being transferred to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, Sara was ultimately diagnosed with ulcerative colitis - a disease that requires regular infusions to treat. To support her through this process, her care team called in Matt, a Vascular Access Coordinator at St. Joseph’s Health.
Matt was immediately able to help Sara conquer her fear of needles to receive the medication she needed. Now 18 years old, Sara returns to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital every six weeks for treatment with Matt. Over the years, they have formed an unbreakable bond and lifelong friendship.
On April 23rd, Matt and Sara walked the runway together at Fashion with Compassion and shared their inspiring story. View the video at the link below to learn more!
