Goodbye Mermaid and hello something new (and blue)! 💙 This week we said farewell to our beloved mermaid mural by Lindsay Lange as we prepare for the next chapter of our annual mural project with the Patchogue-Medford Library. A huge congratulations to Rafael Algarín, whose design was selected for this year’s mural! We can’t wait to watch Rafael bring his vision to life and share the finished work with the community.

Thank you to our interns Alyssa, Claire, and Paige for assisting in the painting! 🫶

Learning to Look: 👀 Cubism! Join us on June 11th for the final installment of our Spring Series: The Birth of Abstraction. 🟦 We'll conclude the series with Cubism, the groundbreaking movement developed by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque that shattered centuries of traditional perspective and helped launch Modernism into the 20th century. From the fractured viewpoints of Analytic Cubism to the collage inspired innovations of Synthetic Cubism, we'll examine how artists began asking not only how we see, but how we know.

📅 June 11th | 6:30 PM
📍 20 Terry Street, Patchogue

2026 PEACE Partnership Highlight ✨In Art That Speaks: The Power of the Artivist, 22 eighth grade students at East Middle School explored how art can serve as storytelling, healing, and advocacy while reflecting on how we rebuild ourselves, our communities, and our world through empathy and collective voice.

Led by visual arts educator Jennifer Grasso Moise and cultural partner Oya Bangura, students engaged in dialogue, research, and cultural learning experiences centered on art as a tool for social change. Through mixed media, symbolism, gesture, and storytelling, students created life-size figures representing themselves or voices they wanted to amplify, alongside QR-linked artist narratives sharing their personal messages and reflections. The project culminated in a powerful public exhibition inviting viewers into a shared space of reflection, connection, and response. 🤍

This partnership was made possible through PAC’s PEACE Project (Partners in Education, Arts and Community Empowerment), a U.S. Department of Education Assistance for Arts Education funded program.
