VFW Post 2913 Auxiliary

VFW Post 2913 Auxiliary Established on March 9, 1946, the VFW Jayne Latten Post 2913 Auxiliary of Patchogue made a commitment

Established 1914, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Auxiliary set out to serve the veterans of this country and our communities in honor of the sacrifices and commitment of every man and woman who has served in uniform. The VFW Auxiliary is one of the nation’s oldest veterans’ service organizations and our members are the relatives of those who have served overseas in a

location of foreign conflict. Nearly 470,000 members in more than 3,700 Auxiliaries nationwide who volunteer millions of hours and fundraise millions of dollars for charitable projects that benefit veterans, military service personnel and their families. Through our National Programs, we assist the VFW pass or block legislation that impacts veterans and their families, provide nearly a million volunteer hours in the VA medical system, conduct patriotic programs with thousands of students and offer hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships for our nation’s youth.

Sunday, August 23rd marked an important day in the history of our post when Eric D'Arce, Sr. Vice Commander, completed a 66 mile run from Montauk Point to the VFW Post 2913 in Patchogue! The cause that fueled the run was su***de awareness and prevention of our active and veteran military service members, when we are still averaging 22 losses per day. Having a personal connection to this cause, Eric is very passionate about helping his fellow soldiers, marines, airmen and women, sailors, and guards and proves it by showing up with his strength at events and in the offices of lawmakers supporting legislation that makes lives easier for veterans and their families. He wasn’t alone for the journey as he was joined in parts by some fellow runners and a biker, and was followed by Post Commander Joe VanEmmerik and Sr. Vice President Jeslie Alvarado. We are so proud to help Eric, his VFW brothers, and all of the wonderful organizations that he’s connected to, make a positive difference in this community.

Thank you to these vendors and organizations that helped make the finish line the beginning of something impactful:

Words from our Sr Vice Commander Eric D'Arce

“I like to recognize individuals who go above and beyond while they are still here with us. The man on the right in this picture is a retired Army veteran & current VFW Islandia Post member. We shared conversation over gym sessions and one thing led to another and boom, we are conducting a ceremony for elementary school kids. This man’s initiative, dedication and respect for the community and veterans is a model to be shown and repeated. In a short period of time, I have had the honor to call this man a friend and brother in arms. Thank you for asking me to join in this mission of educating the future generations of leaders. Sgt Tom Baxter, may you be blessed with the strength to carry on in your mission and may you be presented with support in every initiative. It has been an honor working alongside you, Semper Fi. I want to personally thank the two recruiters from the Army Recruiting📍Patchogue NY Recruiting Station, Ssg Garner & Correa for your unwavering support with students and the Jayne-Lattin VFW Post 2913 and Post 12144 members. This ceremony and knowledge could not have been conducted and shared without your support and dedication to practices and timely arrivals. Last but not least, I want to thank the Central Islip School District for allowing us to conduct this presentation to your students. May your students prosper with knowledge and maintain their commitment to this great Country. Over and Out.”

This Memorial Day, the weight of the sacrifice made by our fallen military service members feels especially heavy. We honor their bravery in ceremony and by our actions every day as we strive to be the best citizens and veterans. At Cedar Grove cemetery we gathered around Kenneth Jayne's grave, our post's namesake, to pay tribute to him and those who never made it home. "All gave some, some gave all."
