I am saddened to announce Troop 21 has lost another dear friend. Matt Dexter was a Scout father, Troop committee chairman, Troop treasurer, flower sale organizer, Street Fair stalwart, and camping backstop (not his favorite activity). Matt was a major asset in organizing the new role for Krehbiel Lodge as Chartered Organization for nine units. He also proved essential in guiding how Krehbiel Lodge would use the funds from the Krehbiel endowment. Matt updated the treasurer's role to include spreadsheets and tracking Scout fund accounts so each Scout knew what the Troop was holding for him. When he and I decided it was time to add a girls Troop, it was Matt that took a lead role in getting the new leaders organized and determined how to finance the necessary funding.
Matt was also a merit badge counselor and enjoyed working directly with Scouts. He gave then good advice in the Boards of Review he led. Although Matt was not a fan of "roughing it," he did like going on special trips with the Troop such as visiting the Norman Rockwell collection at the Medici Museum or Art, the cruiser Little Rock at the Buffalo Naval Yard, or the Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright Patterson.
Recently Matt had turned over the roles of Committee Chair and then Treasurer. He made sure his job of flower buyer and Street Fair impresario fell on other shoulders and recruited more merit badge counselors as he was reducing his Troop 21 presence. His loss will still be deeply felt as he had become an integral part of Troop 21 for many years. Matt was fifty-five years old and leaves his wife, Kathy, sons Caleb and Cody behind.
