Community Sailing Foundation
2022 Summer Sail Camp Scholarship Application (Based on financial need)

NOTICE:
THE FOUNDATION IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH ANY YACHT CLUB. We are a non-profit Foundation dedicated to helping children find financial resources to attend sailing camps available on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. INSTRUCTIONS:
Complete all spaces before submitting your application. All questions m

ust be answered completely, including the essay, in order for your application to be considered. Younger children can submit shorter essays, or parents may assist younger children. Please mail your completed application to Community Sailing Foundation, P.O. Box 66, Pass Christian, MS 39571 – or email your completed application to [email protected]

Applications are accepted on a 1st come, 1st served basis, however, no applications can be considered after the Wednesday before the 1st day of the last sailing camp sessions. There is a list of sailing camp programs and session dates on the last page of this application. Early registration at the camp of your choice is critical to reserving your requested session. Scholarships decisions are based on financial need of the family and the cost of the camp. A full scholarship award is up to $530, partial scholarship award is up to $300 (both depending on the cost of the sailing camp chosen). Sailing Camps are run by private organizations (primarily Yacht Clubs) which are completely separate from the Foundation. Families may decide which Sailing Camp is most convenient for their child. The following clubs have traditionally had summer sailing camp programs: Bay Waveland, Pass Christian, Long Beach and Gulfport Yacht Clubs. Children must apply for admission to the Sailing Camp of their choosing and be accepted by the program for admission. Scholarship Awards will be sent directly to the Sailing Camp Office or Director of the camp chosen, provided the child meets eligibility requirements and is accepted into the camp. Most camps require children to be 8 years old and have swimming skills. Some Yacht Clubs require a member of that club to “sponsor” that child. Community Sailing Foundation CANNOT “sponsor” a child for any camp because the Foundation is NOT a member of any Yacht Club. Families are encouraged to check with the camp they are interested in attending for specific requirements. Most camps have specific items that are required to be brought to camp each day such as Personal Flotation Device (Life Jacket), sunscreen, hat, etc. The Community Sailing Foundation can assist with loaning these items to children on a case by case basis. Please contact the Foundation at 228-547-4873 or [email protected] with any specific questions regarding the scholarship application process.
