Hello PRARC Members and Friends,
It is not too early to gear up for ARRL Field Day 2026, which takes place June 27–28, 2026. Field Day is one of amateur radio’s most popular operating events in the United States and Canada, bringing together more than 31,000 radio amateurs each year to demonstrate the science, skill, service, and community value of amateur radio.
This year’s Field Day theme is “Amateur Radio: A National Resource.” Combined with the ARRL Year of the Club, this gives the Paso Robles Amateur Radio Club an excellent opportunity to show how amateur radio supports public service, technical learning, emergency preparedness, and community connection.
PRARC is planning an ambitious Field Day effort using club call sign W6R. Our planned operating stations are:
▶️Legacy Station — SSB and CW
Station Captain: Scot, KA3DRR
▶️Digital Station — FT8
Station Captain: Jon, KO6LBD
▶️VHF/UHF Station
Station Captain: Bill, KB6WRW
▶️Get on the Air Station — GOTA
Station Captains: Jeremy, KN6JCJ, and Randy, KO6DJI
GOTA Call Sign: W6LKF
We will begin site assembly on Friday at 11:00 AM. Tear-down will begin on Sunday at 11:00 AM.
Thanks to Jeremy, KN6JCJ, we have confirmed both the generator and outhouse for the Field Day site. Thank you, Jeremy.
In addition to Field Day operations, PRARC is sponsoring several special weekend activities:
🟡Ham Radio Camp
This will include at least one fox hunt, with the possibility of additional fox hunt activity as time and participation allow. We will also have a Morse code oscillator available for members and guests who want to practice or learn the art of CW.
🟡TrunkFest II
Beginning late Saturday morning and continuing through Saturday evening, members may sell, trade, or give away ham radio-related gear. This is a great opportunity to clear out unused equipment, help newer operators, and keep good gear in circulation.
🟡Ham Radio FilmFest After Sunset
Jeremy, KN6JCJ, is sponsoring a unique addition to the weekend: Ham Radio FilmFest After Sunset, featuring two ham radio-related films shown on his big screen.
PRARC will also sponsor all Field Day-related meals, beginning with our traditional Friday evening pizza and continuing through Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner, concluding with Sunday morning breakfast before tear-down. We would like to thank Darin, W6PUG, and Bill, KB6WRW, for their work supporting this important part of the weekend.
Please remember to bring shareable snacks and your personal drinks. PRARC is sponsoring meals only.
We would also like to thank Eric V. and Theo B. for taking on the important public relations role. They will help interface with local media outlets and support the club’s outreach efforts.
We are also exploring the possibility of a Field Day testing site. More information will follow as soon as details are confirmed.
Field Day is more than an operating event. It is public service, emergency readiness, technical skill, fellowship, and club identity all rolled into one weekend. This year’s theme fits PRARC well: amateur radio really is a national resource, and our club has a strong opportunity to show that in action.
Can we beat last year's 937 QSO(s) in the log? More details will follow as planning continues.
Thank you,
