Artes Vocales is an auditioned choir committed to bringing great choral music to the Los Angeles area

Under the baton of Artistic Director Dr. Steven Kronauer, Artes Vocales is an auditioned community chorus established in 2018. Dr. Kronauer holds a doctorate in choral and operatic conducting from UCLA and oversees the Young Men’s Ensemble of the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. Artes Vocales is privileged to have an artistic director who is equally accomplished in the fields of conducting and vocal

training, making it unique among its neighboring community choruses. The singers and members of Artes Vocales, hailing from the greater Los Angeles area and all walks of life, are bound by a common passion – a love of and passion for great choral music.

Under the direction of Dr. Steven Kronauer, this program showcases the brilliance and emotional depth of Claudio Monteverdi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Henry Purcell, and George Frideric Handel.

Highlights include:
• Sacred excerpts from Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610
• A profound and virtuosic motet by Bach
• Selections from Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, including “Dido’s Lament”
• Handel’s majestic Zadok the Priest
Featuring the Artes Vocales Festival Ensemble, with Scott VanOrnum and Twyla Myers on organ and harpsichord.

Mostly Kosher, the Los Angeles-based Klezmer/Rock band, radically reconstructs Judaic and American cultural music through ravenous klezmer beats and arresting Yiddish refrains. The acclaimed ensemble is a musical feast that explodes into a global food-fight of Jazz, Latin, Rock, and Folk. In response to the poetry and folk music of Judaic roots, their original voice resounds with themes of social justice, human dignity, and mutual understanding.
