Joshua is CCBA’s first Latino scholarship recipient and our first recipient who is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran honored with the Bronze Star Medal with Valor for heroism in combat.
Joshua shared:
“I am the first in my family to attend law school and the first to receive a scholarship like this one. It means more to me than I can easily put into words.
“As a nontraditional student with an unconventional path, I did not take for granted what CCBA’s support gave me: the room to focus on becoming a lawyer while graciously offsetting my tuition. Instead of taking a job just to get by, I was able to try out for and make law review and earn a place on the trial team—experiences that are genuinely shaping me into an advocate.
“That is the difference this scholarship made, and I am deeply grateful for it. To anyone considering a gift, you are giving the next recipient the same room to grow into who they are meant to be.”

Meet Nicole Carrasco, one of CCBA’s 2026 Law Student Scholarship recipients 🎓⚖️
Nicole is CCBA’s first Latina scholarship recipient and our first recipient to volunteer as a Child Advocate with the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights.
Nicole shared:
“Hello, my name is Nicole Carrasco, and I am currently a 2L at Loyola Law School. As a first-generation student and scholarship recipient, I’m incredibly grateful for the support CCBA has provided. Beyond the financial assistance, it is meaningful to know that there is a community invested in my education, my goals, and my ability to succeed.
“I aspire to help shape the legal field into a space that reflects and serves the communities it represents—a space accessible to those who need justice most. The support of CCBA and its generous donors motivates me to become someone who can one day give back in meaningful ways.”

Meet Annie Hong, one of CCBA’s 2026 Law Student Scholarship recipients, pictured with our distinguished Board Member Elisa Guadan. 🎓⚖️ Annie is CCBA’s first Asian American scholarship recipient and our first recipient to be on active military duty. She currently serves in the U.S. Army Reserve, is a 2026 graduate of UC Irvine School of Law, and recently completed the California Bar Exam.

Annie shared:

“Receiving the CCBA Scholarship meant a lot to me. I just finished taking the bar exam, and this scholarship made a real difference by easing some of the financial stress during law school and bar prep. Just as important were the connections I made through the CCBA. It was a pleasure meeting and learning from distinguished leaders in the criminal law community, and I really appreciated their support and encouragement along the way.”

On June 18, the CCBA spoke out in support of the integrity of our courts after the publication of a NY Post article targeting a highly respected Los Angeles Superior Court judge.

As we approach America’s 250th anniversary, we remain committed to the principle that public confidence in our justice system depends on checks and balances within the courts, and fair and complete reporting by the press. We’re grateful that LACBA, MABA, LLBA, and other sister bar associations joined in reaffirming those values.
