Westridge School An independent girls’ school for grades 4-12 in Pasadena, CA since 1913. Surgere Tentamus: We Strive to Rise

The fundamental purpose of Westridge School is to develop in girls their intellectual and creative powers and their unique qualities as individuals. Essential to the school’s purpose is the commitment to be a community that reflects and values diversity, respects individual differences, and responds to a changing, dynamic world. An intellectually engaging and challenging curriculum prepares students to continue their education in college and beyond as discerning, motivated learners who are committed to excellence and goodness in everything they do. The program offers balance among humanities, mathematics and sciences, fine and performing arts, technology and athletics. Westridge strives to develop young women whose joy in learning, personal ideals, commitment to ethical action, social and environmental responsibility, courage and compassion will lead them to meaningful lives as contributing citizens of the larger world.

📖🌻 During the sixth annual LatinExcellence Assembly hosted by our Upper School Latine Affinity, guest speaker Aurora Anaya ’96 shared how finding identity in literature, along with her experiences at Westridge, UCLA, and USC, helped shape her mission to expand access to books and nature through her bookshop, .

Anaya also joined our La Comunidad parent affinity group for a special book club event, moderating a discussion of Julia Alvarez's novel Afterlife! 💚

Student-led and built around community 💚 The Upper School Affinity Fair brought students together to learn more about affinity groups - spaces to connect around shared backgrounds and cultures, support each other, plan events, and discuss topics that matter to them (and sometimes lead presentations to our broader school community!)

International Day of the Girl is an opportunity to recognize how much girls have to contribute when their voices are valued and their potential is supported.

Today we’re reminded of the importance of investing in girls’ rights, expanding access to education, and making sure girls everywhere have the opportunity to learn, lead, and be heard.

We loved spending time with the Private School Village community at this year’s back-to-school picnic at the Rose Bowl. 💚 The event creates spaces where families can truly connect and experience a genuine sense of belonging, and Westridge is grateful to be in partnership with PSV.

A special shoutout to the Westridge students, AAFROW parent affinity members, administrators, and admission team who made this community moment possible!

From kitchen scraps to compost! 🌱 4th graders are kicking off STEM by building their own compost bins.

Students collected coffee grounds, eggshells, and other organic materials from home, with some even recruiting their families to help (a tip from Emily B. ’35: place a bag next to the fruit bowl to collect peels!) 🍌 Back at school, students added twigs and branches, then drilled holes in their bins to help aerate them.

The project is also an introduction to something bigger: developing mindful habits, from sorting waste in the bins around campus to choosing reusable utensils and recycled paper! 🌎

A fresh take on biology! 🧬🍓 Students in Advanced Biology II got hands-on with molecular biology this week, extracting DNA from strawberries, kiwis, and bananas and watching strands of genetic material collect in front of them—a visible link to the invisible code inside every living cell!

The lab kicked off the biotechnology unit and gave students a first taste (no pun intended) of the lab techniques they’ll build on throughout the year.
