Troop 5 was founded at Polytechnic School in 1916, nine years after the 1907 founding of the Boy Scouts by British General Robert Baden-Powell. Troop 5 scouts brought their pets to campus one afternoon in 1916, beginning a tradition that has lasted 100 years. Troop 5 ran the Poly Pet and Hobby Show for many years. Troop 5 has a long and rich history. Its Eagle Scouts have participated in the Rose

Parade and served as the color guard for the 1988 inauguration of Caltech President Thomas Everhart. Today Troop 5 has an active and wide-ranging program that includes an annual trip to Cherry Valley on Catalina Island, high adventure trips to Philmont Scout Ranch, Northern Tier canoe bases, Sea Base and other locations. Troop 5 also serves the community through Eagle Scout projects, trail clearing and other projects. We invite you to visit our weekly Wednesday meetings from 7:15 - 8:30 pm during the school year in the Gamble Multipurpose Room above the Boys Gym to learn more about Troop 5.
