We are a service club with the goals of making our community, our schools and our world a better place. Our club has adopted Field Elementary School in Pasadena. We provide an annual awards dinner for outstanding students and we work on a beautification project in the spring. We also support education in Pasadena by making grants to teachers for programs and items not paid for by the school distri
ct. We serve meals for the clients of Pasadena's Union Station quarterly during the year. Projects in the past have included partnering with Kid's Read for Success, Foothill Vocational Services, Door of Hope, Pasadena's Hot Meals program at Villa Parke, Five Acres, Kidspace Museum, Arroyo Seco tree planting and many more things. We also participate in world service. We have helped build houses in Tecate Mexico and deliver wheelchairs to Hermosillo Mexico. We have purchased eye surgery equipment, helped build a dam and a job's training center and refurbish a school in India. We have also started a jobs program in Uganda for single mothers. We also funded a new bridge for a village in Kenya. We are part of Rotary District 5300 which has over 60 clubs in California and Nevada. The District puts on programs like leadership training for high school juniors and for 8th graders, scholarships for student musicians, a high school speech contest and exchange programs with other countries. District 5300 is part of Rotary International with over 1.2 million members. The largest international program for Rotary International is the eradication of polio worldwide. We are now down to less than 1,000 annual cases in 3 endemic countries. We hope to have the disease totally eradicated in a few years. Come by for a visit and find some new friends with the attitude of "Service Above Self".
