Adult Tinkering classes start tonight at our summer makerspace in Pasadena.

We're going to be building automata, hand-crank mechanical sculptures, and learning how to build different mechanisms out of foam board, wood, and metal. Feel free to bring the kids to hang out while you work.

This is what great can happen when you empower kids to start using new tools.

These are photos of the finished projects from the Creative Metalwork class, co-taught through Kids Building Things at the McGroarty Arts Center. Kids from Plainview Elementary in Tujunga learned how to use the jeweler's saw to cut sheetmetal, measure with digital calipers, drill with a flexshaft, and cut and hammer their own custom rivets. Start to finish, all in 3 hours. It's pretty amazing.

Imagine what we could do if we could provide affordable tinkering classes to kids, regardless of income, on a regular basis.

Tinkering School LA summer camp is here!

In this week long daycamp, students learn how to use power tools in a supportive, girl-friendly, creative environment, and then go build something truly huge in wood, fabric, and found objects based on a surprise "theme of the week." We teach hand saws, power drills, sewing machine, and more. Past projects have included a 10ft x 8 ft dinosaur, a castle with turret and draw bridge, a mini-golf course and fully functioning carnival, giant robots, and more.

Sessions run June. 12-Jul. 28 in Pasadena.
9am-3pm. Aftercare available upon request.

We tinkered at Discovery Cube LA!

Thanks to everyone who came out this past Sunday. We asked kids to make something--anything they wanted. We had a giant pile of random stuff like cardboard, bottle caps, ribbon, and gobs of hots glue, and saw some really cool inventions.
