UPDATE: The Lawson family had to change the service times - now 11:30 service & 1:00 Celebration of Life on 4/10 - as well as the link to RSVP due to Naval Academy protocols. Below is the updated link and the previous disabled link has been removed. We’ve also added the flyer that shows 4/9 visitation info….

As many in the community may have learned, Leanna Lawson’s heroic battle with cancer has ended. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family & friends. Thank you to all within the league and beyond who championed Leanna’s lengthy fight.

As our winter season cools down, Chesapeake Girls Basketball playoffs are heating up! Catch the Cougars in action and root your loudest as the ladies vie in the Regional Semi-Finals 6:00, Tuesday 3/3, at Northeast.

These Chesapeake players give so much to the community and to our league through summer clinics, LSB night, Special Olympics, fundraising events, packing food bags for needy children, coaching 5/6 All-Stars, evaluation help, and more. Now’s our chance to say THANK YOU by giving them a hometown boost in their rival’s gym!

The team finished the regular season 16-6 and in their first matchup vs the Eagles, the Cougars won by 5. In the second meeting, the Cougars fell by 1 in overtime, in the final seconds. LSB alum Kiery Matkins pumped in 30 pts during the showdown. The girls are playing exciting basketball! Don’t miss it!

Ballers of the future alert & round of applause for Coach Papsan’s 10U County girls. They lost at the buzzer to an undefeated team last week, which sent them to the consolation round instead of the Championship. The girls rallied for an exciting 2 pt win today to place 3rd County wide! Keep working hard, girls. We can't wait to watch your continued growth!👏

Cheers to student-athlete Cade Shannon, who began his journey at age three with the Green Hornets Baseball & Softball - GSPAA! A standout multi-sport athlete, Cade developed his skills with the Buccaneers Athletic Club (Bucs), Pasadena Soccer Club, and Lake Shore Basketball, Pasadena MD, eventually becoming a 4-year Varsity leader in soccer and lacrosse at Chesapeake High School (Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS)). He is now heading to Bucknell University to continue his academic and lacrosse career! 🦬🥍

Cade credits his growth to coaches like Vic Watkins, Kevin Howard, and Phil DeRosier, who helped him build the mental toughness to "win the battle in his mind." He especially values the mentorship of Kevin Keeter, whose support during the COVID shutdown transformed him from an average player into an elite competitor.

We’re proud to see Cade represent the Chesapeake community at the next level!
