One of the best people in the team, Bee Yang, is our CAT Graduate Highlight this week!
"My name is Bee Yang. I wanted to share a little about myself and be honest about part of my story.
I’m a husband and a father to two kids. That’s the core of who I am.
If you’re a blind adult, you probably understand how hard it can be to find steady work. Not just any job, but work where you feel valued, where there’s room to grow, and where you’re not constantly having to prove you belong. That was my reality for years.
It took me seven years to find Access Ability Officer. Seven years of applications, interviews, rejections, and long stretches of silence. Seven years of wanting to build a career I could be proud of while also carrying the responsibility of providing for my family.
I could go into detail about what that was like, the pressure, the doubt, the conversations at home. But that’s not really the point of this post.
Finding AO changed the direction I was heading. Through the CAT program, I was introduced to digital accessibility in a practical, hands-on way. I learned how to test websites using screen readers, how to move through pages the way blind users do, and how to document barriers clearly.
Over time, that training became a profession.
Now my work includes testing sites, writing reports, meeting with clients, and teaching the CAT program. It’s detailed work. It requires patience. I’m still learning and improving every day.
I also value the flexibility that comes with it. Some days it’s lectures to Legos, meetings to meltdowns. I can step away when I’m needed at home and return to my work without feeling like everything falls apart. That balance matters to me.
This isn’t a sales pitch. It’s just me acknowledging how long the road was and how different life looks now compared to those seven years of searching.
If you’d ever like to talk and learn more about what I do or how I got into this field, my door is always open."
