667 E. Colorado Blvd., circa 2007 📸
Before Blaze Pizza, the corner of El Molino & Colorado Blvd was home to Vroman’s Fine Writing, Gifts & Stationery, a specialty shop offering pens, stationery, invitations, and gifts. After nine years as a standalone store, the department returned to Vroman’s flagship location in August 2012.

Blaze Pizza opened at 667 E. Colorado Blvd on October 15, 2012, marking a visible shift for the corner from specialty retail to dining. This Blaze Pizza location is the original flagship, opened by founders Rick and Elise Wetzel.

At the time, the Los Angeles Times noted that Blaze’s quick-service concept made it possible for diners to grab a meal before heading to nearby Laemmle or Vroman’s, offering a glimpse of the dinner-and-entertainment experience that would continue to evolve throughout Playhouse Village.
