Every year, kitten season arrives. Every year, we brace ourselves for it. And every year, it somehow feels bigger, heavier, and more overwhelming than the year before.
Right now, we are deep in kitten season.
My phone rings constantly with people begging for help. Messages pour in at all hours of the day and night. Tiny kittens found alone. Sick cats suffering outside. Colonies exploding with new litters. Injured animals with nowhere to go.
The heartbreaking reality is that while people often see animal rescues as organizations, behind every rescue are just people. People with jobs, families, responsibilities, and limits. People who cry, who lose sleep, who carry the weight of the suffering they witness every single day.
I chose this life because I care deeply about animals. I would choose it again. But that doesn't make it easy.
In just the last 24 hours alone, I have tried to help a tiny kitten with maggots crawling from its ge****ls. One of our volunteers discovered three decomposing cats behind a shed where an unfixed feral population has spiraled out of control. In the last three days, more than 20 kittens have been brought into our care from outdoor colonies.
And tomorrow there will be more calls.
There are always more calls.
The hardest part of rescue is knowing that the number of animals we can save is directly tied to the number of people willing to stand beside us. The number of fosters we have. The number of volunteers willing to help. The number of transporters willing to drive. The number of people willing to clean cages, wash dishes, scoop litter boxes, trap cats for TNR, answer messages, attend events, and do all of the behind-the-scenes work that isn't glamorous but is absolutely essential.
We cannot do this alone.
If you have ever considered fostering, volunteering, transporting, helping with TNR, cleaning, fundraising, or supporting our mission in any way, now is the time. We desperately need more hands. We need more hearts. We need more people willing to step forward and say, "I'll help."
Not everyone can foster a litter of kittens. Not everyone can trap feral cats. But everyone can do something.
And if you are unable to volunteer, we desperately need supplies. We are going through cat and kitten food faster than we can keep it stocked. We need wet food, dry food, puppy pads, heating pads, medical supplies, and monetary donations to help cover the never-ending veterinary expenses that come with saving lives.
Every kitten that survives. Every cat that is spayed or neutered. Every animal that finds a safe home. Every life that gets a second chance happens because a community comes together and makes it possible.
Right now, that community is being stretched to its limits.
If you've ever thought about getting involved, please reach out. Ask questions. Learn more. Become part of the solution.
Because the calls aren't stopping.
And neither are we.
