Rotary Rose Parade Float Riders

Rotary Rose Parade Float Riders Over the years our entries have globally spread the word about Rotary International. The theme of the 2011 parade is Building Dreams, Friendships and Memories.

Dear Fellow Rotarians and Friends,

This year we will celebrate the Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee’s 32nd consecutive entry in the Tournament of Roses Parade. Our float will closely parallel this theme through the use of 2010-2011 RI President Ray Klinginsmith’s theme: Building Communites, Bridging Continents. Last year the Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee was proud of the float for its desi

gn, beauty, and the involvement of so many Rotarians, youth and friends. It was awarded the Volunteer Float Trophy for the best use of floral arrangements for a float of 35 feet or less. The float is not a project of Rotary International, and no Rotary International funds are used in the building or promotion of the float. Our ability to enter a float is dependant solely on the generosity of Rotarians and friends. As we approach the parade on January 1st, over 800 volunteers will donate in excess of 6000 hours of their time in the preparation and decoration of the float which is made up of natural materials: flowers, seeds, husks and leaves. Members of Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact clubs, and their family and friends work on the float. The volunteers come from all over the United States and Canada, ocassionally other countries. The float represents a coming together, a pride of ownership. Without the ongoing support of labor and donations from people across the United States and Canada, the Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee would be unable to continue building a parade entry each year. We look forward to your support again this year and acknowledge you in advance for your assistance. Traditionally the Rotary International President has attended the New Year’s Day festivities, and this year will be no exception. We are honored to have RI President Ray Klinginsmith committed to join us to celebrate the New Year with a float proclaiming his theme: Building Communities, Bridging Continents. We feel that there is no better way to promote Rotary than with a beautiful float in the 122nd Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1, 2011. The parade will be televised worldwide and viewed by more than 300 million people in more than 200 countries. The members of the Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee thank you for your support and help in creating this year’s float. Charles M. Barr, Chairman, 2011
